This year’s YHS finals for Region 3 had a lot of AMAZING horses! Those who were at the top of their classes definitely deserved recognition.

LOF was represented by the 2yo Donnie Baseball LOF. He scored a very respectable 5th /17 in the jump chute and 11th /18 in hand.
Congratulations to his owner Natalie Bosse!

Only had one horse competing from my breeding program this year, our 2yo Donnie Baseball LOF.

He is currently ranked 9th nationally out of 80 2yo in the in hand class (conformation and movement) and tied for 19th in the jump chute (jumping technique and scope)

Congratulations to his owner, Natalie Bosse and good luck in the Finals!

Lead Off Farm congratulates Colin and Natalie on their purchase of Matt, aka, Donnie Baseball LOF!

Natalie has had her eye on Matt since he was born. Colin, her amazing husband, decided to gift him to her for their 10th anniversary!

We wish them the best, and look forward to seeing him grow up and become the amazing show horse we know he will be!

I don’t usually cross-post my crochet into my horse world, but we all have barn cats and know how important the rescue groups that help us get them are. I got my two orange fluffy boys, Catcher and Batter from Friends of Felines, and I’m happy to donate this to their fundraiser.

I’ve got to say, I’m pretty darn proud of this bag.

It was created from the pattern written by the amazing Natalia of Outstanding Crochet ! I did a few minor modifications to the bottom and the handles. The bottom is reinforced to hold its shape. The handles have a nylon strap core that goes around the bottom of the bag, it is extremely sturdy. It is fully lined and has two pockets, one specifically designed for holding glasses.

The entire bag was done by me in mosaic crochet from fine cotton yarn.

Here are the pro pictures of Donnie Baseball LOF (aka Matt) from the Young Horse Show Series (YHS) at Allforit Farm, LLC this weekend where he was 2nd by a hair in the at liberty and 5th in jump chute in a big class of 2yos.

I got the pictures back from Bethany P Photography. Beautiful work as usual, but she did have a good model. 😉

Matt is a stunning 2023 Holsteiner Verband - North America gelding and is eager to please. Judges and handlers have both commented on his outstanding demeanor.

He’s had outstanding scores at all his shows thus far, always coming in the top 5. …Except the one show he decided he was anti NASCAR and would only go to the right. 🙄 Hard to score half a horse.

His jump is rhythmic and smooth for hunters, he’s got power and speed available for jumpers, bold for the eventers, and look at that movement for dressage. 😍At a young 2 (born in June) he’s 15.3, so should finish 16.1 - 16.3.

He’s available to become a star in the show ring of your choice!

Just came home from from the Young Horse Show Series (YHS) hosted at Allforit Farm, LLC . Thanks for providing such a lovely location for the show!

We took our (for ⛵️) 2yo gelding, Donnie Baseball LOF aka Matt (Don Quichot/ Ciceras Icewater/ Calando I) for the at liberty and jump chute classes.

Wow! What an amazing group of young horses. We were only there for the 2yos, 😍😍😍. I saw some yearlings and lovely older horses too!

The 2yos showed up in mass, there were around 20 in our classes.

I was very pleased to learn Matt came in tied for 5th in the jump chute, and amazed he earned 2nd in the Liberty class. A special thank you! To Catherine Kirschenmann for the zip ties to repair Matt’s bridle after he stepped on the reins. 🙄

So, most of my posts are updates about the horses and their success. I myself, tend to shy away from bragging about my own accomplishments.

Last month, I was honored to be awarded the Anne Arundel County Conservationist of the year. We worked with Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Maryland Department of Agriculture, Anne Arundel Soil Conservation District, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Through a number of cost sharing and grant programs, we’ve been able to install automatic waterers in all our fields, added heavy use areas around all the gates, reseeded all fields, and implement a rotational grazing program. We also built and hung birdhouses to attract native species, and some of them even had nests this year!

We’re not stopping there, we hope to add more plans for wildlife habitat and to better manage our horses while protecting the ecosystem.

I encourage any stable to contact their local soil conservation district. You can pick and choose programs that would work for your farm. Many of which come with grants or cost sharing incentives. I wouldn’t have been able to afford putting automatic waterers in all my fields at once without these programs. Who knows, maybe you could be recognized next year!
