She is looking amazing still.
I love the contrast and the amount of patterning.
Often the pattern fades as they get older, but hers is holding strong.

More baby albino house snakes hatching this week.
6 healthy little babies.

It is a great day here today.
I checked the incubator this morning and found 5 beautiful baby Aurora House Snakes that have freshly hatched.
I am so excited.
They are so dark compared to their mother, but they should lighten up to look like her with age.
They seem to be a decent size, so I hope that translates to getting them feeding quickly.

Hatching has started!
This is from a breeding between a T+ and T- albino house snake.
It should have only brown babies with the genes for both types of albinos in the clutch.
But it looks like the 2 little faces poking out might be albino, so we will have to wait until they fully emerge to dig further into that mystery.

I got 8 eggs from my big girl, Ruby.
They are safely tucked away in the incubator.
Looking forward to seeing what emerges in a couple of months' time.

I managed to get them all sexed tonight.
I have available:

2.4 T+ Albino babies (2 males, 4 females)
2.5 Het. T+ Albino babies (2 males, 5 females)

2.0 Het. T+ Albino yearlings (2 males)

Available:

I have some baby cape house snakes available.
7 x T+ albinos (Looks albino)
4 x het. T+ albinos (Looks normal, carries albino gene)

Almost all of them have had 3 meals and are ready for new homes.

These are the cape house snake species, originally from South Africa.
Scientific name: Boaedon capensis (previously; Lamprophis capensis)
These snakes are known to be particularly robust feeding snakes once started.
They start on pinkie mice and progress to adult mice or hopper sized rats when adults.
The males reach about 2 - 2.5 ft and the females can reach up to 4 feet.
They have a similar temperament to corn snakes and are very easy to look after.
My advice is to keep them with a heating pad (although they do well at ambient temperature too) under their cage/tub and give them a moist hide (a small tub containing some moistened moss) for them to climb into occasionally to stop them from getting too dry and to help them with shedding.

Some info on the type of albinism (amelanism) in these snakes:
The T+ (Tyrosinase positive) albino colour mutation is a recessive trait.
There are 2 types of albino genes in house snakes. Tyrosinase negative and tyrosinase positive.
Tyrosinase is one of the proteins that play a part in producing melanin pigment in animals and in albinos.
Tyrosinase negative animals do not have this enzyme and are usually characterized by red eyes and a lack of all black/brown pigment whereas tyrosinase positive animals such as mine have the tyrosinase protein and are characterized by black eyes,

I have had 16 African House Snakes hatch in the last few weeks. Half of them T+ Albino and half of them het. for T+ Albino.
I will put a few meals into them and then they will be available.
