We're overflowing with gratitude today!

Many of you know Faith's story – rescued in 2018 with a devastating leg injury that took months to heal. She's always been incredibly cautious, friendly enough for pets but impossible to catch. Her insecurity around humans, especially away from her best friend Scarlet, has been a big challenge. But this week, something incredible happened! Cowboy Bob (Robert Bova) started working with Faith, and this is only his second day!

We've never seen Faith join up with a human like this before. Her trust and connection with Robert is heartwarming to witness. This is a testament to Robert's patience and expertise. He's unlocked a potential in Faith we never thought possible. This is the magic of rescue!A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to Robert for his unwavering support of Becky's Hope. Your dedication means the world to us, and to Faith. We are eternally grateful!

So sorry for the radio silence! Life (and the weather!) got a little crazy, but we wanted to share a Pepper update!

Since arriving on December 7th (a very skinny 2 on the body condition score!), she's blossoming. We're following a strict vet-recommended feeding plan, and while there were a few bumps in the road initially (let's just say there were a few "restart" moments with her food!), she's doing fantastic now. She's become a total foodie—she practically sprints to her meals! She's the sweetest girl, though a little head-shy. She prefers to hang near us while we're working in the pasture, a total sweetheart who enjoys our company while maintaining her independent streak (bless her heart!). She's even making friends with the mini horses over the fence, though Diamond needs a serious attitude adjustment, and Pepper is more than happy to give it to her! (Let's just say, Pepper's sass is growing daily! 😂) She loves being brushed all over, and her stall and hair is always covered in shavings—proof positive of a cozy, well-rested horse (even if we yet to actually *see* her sleep!).

Oh, and did I mention she's almost impossible to photograph? She wants to be right next to you, and her ears are SO expressive – they're practically moving with every thought! 😅

We love this little (big) lady more than words can say!

Please keep rooting for her. She has a long way to go but we’re trying hard to help her get to where she needs to be. ❤️❤️

Our sweet Matilda, our rescued mule, had a terrible scare. She spent two days in the hospital battling a severe colic. It was the a scary time, but thankfully, she's home now, slowly getting better thanks to the amazing team at Weems & Stephens! We are so incredibly grateful for their quick response and expert care.

But this emergency has left us with a hefty vet bill. As a small horse rescue, we rely on the kindness of our supporters to give animals like Matilda the best possible care. We're reaching out to you because we need your help to cover these unexpected costs.

Every dollar donated goes directly towards Matilda's ongoing recovery. **Any amount you can contribute, big or small, would mean the world to us and help ensure Matilda gets the care she needs to fully recover.

Thank you for your support. You can donate here: https://beckyshope.com/donate

We've officially experienced our annual "Texas Winter Storm." That's code for "slightly chilly" for anyone outside the state. 😅 Even our spoiled animals refuse to venture outside in this stuff.

Today, we tip our hats to the incredible farriers who keep our long-eared buddies' feet in tiptop shape. Your patience, dedication, and love for our donkeys make all the difference in their health and happiness. Also, thank you for handling every little mischief and occasional attempt to pull your hat off your head with grace and humor. 😄 Today, all our donkeys were on their best behavior—just a little mischief, but mostly just sweet moments of appreciation for you. Ha.

A huge thank you also goes out to our generous donors! Your contributions play a vital role in ensuring our donkeys receive the best care possible. Because of your support, our farriers can continue their amazing work, and our donkeys can trot around happily with healthy hooves.

We also want to report that Barry Wayne is still improving and walking much better. We know that laminitis can take a while to recover from, but we’re thrilled with his progress so far.

A huge shoutout to Bryce, Barry, and Jake for their incredible help in winter-proofing our goat and sheep shelter and the Donkey shelter! Thanks to you guys, our animals will now be tucked in snugly, away from the cold and rain this winter.

Bryce had just enough metal for the west side of the shelter, and a big thanks to Barry for donating some heavy vinyl for the rest. We chose to leave the vinyl on the front of the shelter loose so we can tie it up on nice days for some fresh air or secure it down during rain or cold.

These awesome guys also put up half walls on our run-in for the donkey shelter for a bit more protection against the cold and wet for them also.

We only have a few minor leaks on the roof to fix, and once we get some straw bales for the sheep and goats to lay on, we'll be all set for the coldest months. Walahhhhh!!!!

It’s such a relief knowing our animals will be cozy and warm.

Thank you, guys, for making this possible! 🙌 ❤️

Another LONG post… but want to give you the whole story. 😅

Join us in welcoming our newest rescue: a beautiful mare with a touching backstory.

Right now, she is affectionately known as "Sugar Bear" or "Pepper" by some of our team. I think she’s responding more to "Pepper," but we will see. 😂

This isn’t a case of cruelty or intentional neglect, but it underscores the importance of having a plan for your animals, especially if you live alone. You just never know!

About two weeks ago, we received a call to assist some animals in need. An elderly gentleman living alone on 17 acres in Pilot Point fell and needed a hip replacement, leaving him in the hospital and unable to care for his animals. With all his family living out of state, his kind neighbor stepped in to help. There were five donkeys, a Percheron mare, two dogs, and two cats needing attention. The neighbor did his best and fed them hay daily but eventually reached out for help to his wonderful family, who quickly took action and called us for assistance. We teamed up with Weems and Stephens for a vet check on all the animals. The donkeys, dogs, and cats were all fine, but the mare was very thin, scoring a two on the body scale. Her teeth were in bad shape, and she had a big ulcer in her mouth, likely contributing to her weight loss snd her liver enzymes were elevated but the vets think that will come down when she regains her health. They aged her at approximately 20-25 years old.
The neighbor did confirm he’d seen her weight decline over the last year.

Fortunately, the other animals found new homes: the donkeys on a beautiful 200-acre farm, the dogs with a rescue in Celina, and the cats with a foster family until they can find a permanent family.

This sweet mare came to Becky’s Hope to begin her recovery. She’s hit a few small bumps since being with us, but we’re taking it slow and following the vet's suggestions on her refeeding protocol. We’re thrilled to report she’s showing slight improvement after just two weeks with us. She’s beginning to open up, and it’s wonderful to witness her transformation. This is truly a testament to the saying, "Teamwork makes the dream work," with the family, vets, and Becky’s Hope all working together.

Adding a personal touch to her story: when she was a baby, she and her mom, a Premarin mare, were rescued together. Sadly, her mom passed away on the farm about a year ago, and the elderly gentleman doesn’t remember this girl’s name due to some of his health issues which is why we’re coming up with one for her.

Let's send her all the thoughts, prayers, and good vibes we can muster. She deserves every bit of love and support on her journey to recovery.

Stay tuned for more updates !

*** Pictures are random from the first day she was seen by the vet on Dec 6th thru today. Now we’re all caught up and we can all keep track of her progress together. ❤️

It’s taken me a long while to write this post, I tried over and over the last week or so but couldn’t get thru it but today I'm finally making myself share some sad news about our sweet old guy, Mr. Ed.

As many of you know, Mr. Ed has been with us for years. His story began in McKinney, where he was left alone in a field for a long time. Concerned neighbors eventually contacted us, and he found his way to Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue. Oh, where do I begin to describe his personality? He was perfect, sweet, kind, funny, curious, a bit of a stinker, absolutely the most handsome boy and always demanding attention and food. He was truly one-of-a-kind, and I could go on forever about how special he was.

Many months ago, Mr. Ed had a health scare where everything seemed to flare up at once. He had uveitis, skin issues, his Cushing's was out of control, and he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. His back end was weak, and he just felt awful overall with a compromised immune system. We helped him through all of that, and he rebounded wonderfully. At 33-34 years old he was living his best life again.

Sadly, as our vet predicted - she was worried his hind end would give out and he’d not be able to get up (why do they always have to be right?), Mr. Ed's back-end did worsen, and he eventually went down and couldn't get up. Our amazing vets rushed over to help, but it was determined that the kindest thing to do was to let him go. 😢

We want to thank everyone who loved Mr. Ed and supported him. A special thank you to Rebecca for being his biggest advocate and loving him for all these years and bringing him food, treats and spending so much time with him, and to Stephanie for providing important background information and visiting him often.

Mr. Ed, we really love you and will miss seeing your face every single day. It was a privilege to care for you, and we were truly the lucky ones in this relationship. Rest easy, sweet boy. ❤️‍🩹 ❤️

He will join Bubbles, Muffit, and many others out at Pinehill Pet Cemetery. He is buried in the new Graceland pasture.

Sorry for the LONG post. 😟
