Did you know cold weather can badly affect dogs. This is why we severely limit outside time when it is cold out.

Generally, most dogs start to feel uncomfortable when temperatures drop below 45°F (7°C), with small, thin-coated, young, old, or sick dogs becoming particularly vulnerable at temperatures below 32°F (0°C) and facing risks of hypothermia and frostbite when temperatures drop below 20°F (-7°C).
Key points about dogs and cold temperatures:

Temperature thresholds:
45°F (7°C): Most dogs start to feel uncomfortable at this temperature.
32°F (0°C): Small breeds, thin-coated dogs, and vulnerable dogs should not be left outside for long at this temperature.
20°F (-7°C): Significant risk of hypothermia and frostbite for all dogs.

Factors affecting cold tolerance:

Breed: Breeds with thick coats like Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes are better suited for cold weather.
Size: Smaller dogs tend to lose heat faster than larger dogs.
Age: Puppies and senior dogs are more susceptible to cold-related issues.
Health: Sick or injured dogs are more vulnerable to cold temperatures.

Signs of cold stress in dogs:
Shivering
Hunched posture
Whining or barking
Reluctance to move
Seeking warm places to hide
Lifting paws off the ground

What to do in cold weather:

Limit outdoor time, especially when temperatures are low
Dress your dog in a coat if necessary, particularly small or thin-coated breeds
Provide adequate shelter and access to warm areas
Monitor your dog for signs of cold stress and seek veterinary care if concerned
