The Humane Society of Warren County is a no-kill shelter in beautiful Front Royal, Virginia. We work hard to improve the lives of animals and their guardians in our community. We offer:
Adoptions
Free Pet food Bank
Emergency assistance for veterinary care
Low Cost Spay and Neuter - Coming Soon! Animal Surrender
Lost and Found support

Vision: It is our vision to be part of a community where every

pet is a wanted pet. Admissions:

Stray dogs welcome Thursday-Tuesday 10AM-3:30PM. All other animals are welcome by appointment.

1) HSWC accepts owned animals by appointment. When our shelter is full it means that there are no available kennels. We believe pets deserve a safe place to stay while they wait for a new home. While owners wait, we help them work with their pet on behavior problems and reach out to their own support network for re-homing options. We understand that every situation is unique and will always take a dog or cat if it is in immediate need or danger. We are slowing down our intake process so it is more manageable for our facility. We hope to become a resource for our community, and not a dumping ground. As the contracted public shelter for Warren County, we are saving more lives so the Humane Society of Warren County can be a no kill facility and Warren County can be a no kill community.

2) HSWC accepts healthy stray cats by appointment. When our shelter is full it means that there are no available kennels to house another kitty. If the stray cat is healthy we ask you to wait. Many stray cats are actually owned indoor/outdoor cats and will eventually make their way home. A cat has a much better chance of being reunited with its owner if it isn’t brought into the shelter. Less than 1% of stray cats brought to us are reclaimed. We want to give all community kitties a chance to find their way back home. We know that the community wants the same thing. Thank you for helping make HSWC a safe place for cats to stay while they wait for their forever home.

Handsome and lovable Pepper is a husky/pit mix. He is full of s***k and loves to play and go on hikes or go running. He would be a great family dog as he loves people of all ages. An active family would be best as they could help him release his energy in a positive way. He could use some leash training as he pulls. He LOVES to ride in the car, and is house and crate trained. He is ready to give all his love to a new a family. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.

He also LOVES his humans of any size and just wants to be where they are. We were told by his previous owner that he is dog friendly and a dog test will be required. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. If you are ready for the sweetest addition to your family apply today!

Ally is 8 months old and full of s***k and character. She LOVES to play with her toys and run off her energy in the play yard. She is still very much a puppy and would benefit from training. She is very sweet and we feel she would do good in a family with kids, with the understanding that she will need to be taught boundaries and manners. We are unsure of her with cats and feel a dog savvy cat would be the best fit along with SUPER slow introductions and patience. She has done well playing with some of the pups here at the shelter and a dog test will be required. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines.

Happy Valentine's Day from our lovable kitties! 💘💝💋

Most handsome boy Chance is here and ready to go on adventures with his new family! He will be a year old April 13th, 2025! He does know basic commands but he is still very puppy like and will benefit from some training as he doesn't really know boundaries. He will do better in a home with older children is best as he can be pushy and a bit nippy especially when trying to let you know he is ready for attention. he hasn't been around cats or dogs since he was super young and we would require a dog test to see how everyone gets along. For cats super slow and patient introductions is the best way to go. He loves his toys and cuddling with his blankies and big stuffies! He is very energetic and will do great in an active family that will give him the proper way to express his energy. He is crate trained and housetrained. He loves to ride in the car and going on adventures. He does well in the bath and while being brushed! He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines!

This is a courtesy post, BMO is not at the shelter. Please contact the owner with the information provided below.

This is BMO (pronounced Bee-Moe). He will be 3 years old in April 2025. He is a 28 pound purebred pug (has had Embark testing).

BMO gets along well with cats and other dogs, although he will bark when meeting new dogs or when he wants to “chat” with the neighbors. He can be shy at times, but generally loves all people. He is very sweet and likes to cuddle. He enjoys playing fetch and loves treats.

BMO is mostly housebroken, although does still have some accidents (likely due to my long work day) and although he is neutered there have been incidents of marking in unfamiliar environments. Overall his health has been good. He does have allergies which have led to recurrent yeast infections in his ears. We are just now getting on a regimen to address this, which includes ear flushes and ointment. The vet also says he could stand to lose about 5 pounds. :)

We love BMO very much and are sad to consider rehoming him. His presence in the home has caused some stress in our senior cats; and I also feel like he would do best in a home where someone is home more often and able to play with him to let out some of his remaining puppy energy. That said, he is still a pug and is content to spend much of his days napping.

If anyone is interested in meeting BMO they can email me at [email protected] or send a text to 540-551-2134.

Thank you Kacie

Those cartoonishly big, beautiful green eyes belong to Vamperina. She was surrendered to us due to being extremely stressed in the home, so we’re looking for a calm, peaceful environment for her. She would prefer to be the only pet, but might be ok living with another cat similar in personality. She loves people and is very affectionate, especially when she’s being brushed (she will need frequent grooming with her gorgeous, long coat) She’s six and a half years old, spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and combo tested. Her adoption fee is $85.00

Lazy boy Bobby, named aptly for his tail, is catching some 💤 and doesn’t feel like posing for pictures. This young man is snoozing at any given time so if you’re looking for a mellow kitty he’s your guy. He’s estimated to only be around a year old. He’s cat friendly and would probably be fine with dogs with a proper introduction.

His adoption fee is $85.00 and includes his neuter, vaccines, microchip and combo test.

To meet Bobby please apply here: https://humanesocietywarrencounty.com/adoption-application/

We have two male chinchillas, Ratchet (darker grey) and Clank (lighter grey), available for adoption. While we don’t have an exact age for them, we were told they’re only a few years old. They are bonded brothers so they’ll need to find a home together. We would prefer an adopter that already has experience caring for chinchillas. The adoption fee is $100 and includes the cage, food, hay, dust bath supplies, toys and a few huts for them.

Please apply here for them if interested: https://humanesocietywarrencounty.com/adoption-application/

Attention Siamese lovers 📣

Blue is a sweet and petite female Chocolate Point. It was difficult to even get a decent picture of her because she’s so affectionate, she wants to be in your space soaking up attention at all times. She’s estimated to be 3 years old, but might be a little older due to the state that her mouth was in - she had to have several bad teeth pulled last month. She will need to be on a wet (pate) only diet due to only having a few teeth left, luckily she doesn’t seem to have a problem with this and has a very healthy appetite. Blue did live with other animals and would probably be fine with another calm cat or dog in the home, with proper introductions of course.

Blue’s adoption fee is $85.00 and includes her spay, vaccines, microchip and combo test.

To meet Blue please apply here: https://humanesocietywarrencounty.com/adoption-application/

Our Story

In late 2011, the Humane Society of Warren County began an aggressive campaign to increase adoptions and decrease the rate of unnecessary euthanasia. By the end of 2012, the animal shelter achieved no-kill status in the dog department for the first time in shelter history, with a 92% live release rate. At the same time, cat adoptions increased over seventy percent. Today, those life saving efforts continue. In 2016, HSWC could save over 95% of the animals that came into the shelter. Animals once thought disposable are now provided the medical and behavioral help they need and are given an opportunity for a second chance. This will be the Humane Society of Warren County's second consecutive year of being designated a no kill facility. Vision: It is our vision to be part of a community where every pet is a wanted pet. Admissions: Stray dogs welcome Thursday-Tuesday 10AM-3:30PM. All other animals are welcome by appointment. 1) HSWC accepts owned animals by appointment. When our shelter is full it means that there are no available kennels. We believe pets deserve a safe place to stay while they wait for a new home. Owners help us to save lives by waiting. 2) HSWC accepts stray cats on a case by case basis.

3) HSWC does NOT accept feral kitties. We have worked very hard the past 6 years and we have achieved NO KILL status! Year end 2017, we achieved a 93% live release rate in our feline department and we aim to keep that status. If we continue to accept feral cats, our euthanasia rates go up and our live release rates go down. We believe our community will continue to support our mission and understand why we no longer accept ferals.
