As Hurricane Milton wailed, Pita sought higher ground. Mickey decided if the storm was going to take him, he would go out using his full allotment of two beds. The rest of our blind & deaf crew slept soundly despite the gale (there are upsides to everything!). Thankfully no damage to our place and everyone was safe.

Welcome Tippy! A big shout out of gratitude towards Team Moose in Fort Myers and Susan Gros with Poodle and Pooch rescue out of Orlando. Through a tremendous amount of coordination, Little Dog Ranch is the lucky recipient of this beautiful miniature Aussie. Tippy sadly lost his owner a few weeks back and given that he has liver cancer, was deemed to be a difficult adoption. His situation was perfect for our elder care home. Tippy is starting to settle in after his very stressful ordeal. Just yesterday I was out in the back lawn picking up toys that had been strewn about by my less tidy family members! I picked up a squeaky toy and in the process squeaked it. I looked over at Tip and his ears perked right up. I thought what the heck, and I tossed the toy. Tippy took off at Mach 10, arrived at the toy, picked it up ever so gently in his mouth and trotted it back. He dropped it at my feet. Who knew! Life for Tippy is going to be just fine. Thank you to everyone who has donated to our cause. You are the ones who allow me to give these dogs a beautiful rest of their life. Cheers, Cheryl

Welcome Commen! This wonderful, mostly blind boy came from a great home last Friday. His two loving parents recently moved to our area and their work life changed dramatically. They made a very difficult decision to move Commen to Little Dog Ranch to provide him with more constant care throughout the day and medical attention necessary due to his advancing age. Commen's first trip to our LDR vet was yesterday and his bloodwork came back A+. His eyesight is his major issue, along with a definite need for dental work. Next Tuesday he will travel to the Veterinary Eye Institute in Ocala for an in-depth eye exam. After a treatment plan is determined for his eyes, I will schedule him for a dental. Once this is complete, he should be fit as a fiddle. Commen is an incredibly sweet soul -- right now he is sleeping at my feet in his comfy bed with his special blanket. Check out the video of last night's snuggle... what a love!

Hello Everyone! I promised to give you an update on Pogo after his visit last week at the Gainesville Institute of Veterinary Specialists. Just to refresh, Pogo came to Little Dog Ranch on November 16th. His owner of 4 months had died. He has a golf-ball size tumor on the right side of his jaw and the sparse records that came with him suggested it was a slow-growing cancer. I wanted to get a second opinion. Dr. Isis Sanchez tells me that she feels she can successfully remove the tumor, however, it will likely grow back slowly over time. This is a tough call but Pogo is a VERY sweet, laid-back boy and I think he deserves a chance at a long life. I have tentatively set a January date for surgery but Pogo will need to be in a little better shape (he had been eating a vegan diet - oh my!) for his best surgical outcome. We will see how he is doing after the holidays. For now, he is a content fellow -- still figuring out his new family but loves his meals and running after me when I mow the lawn. It's a good start!

Little Dog Ranch welcomes Pogo, an 12-year-old terrier mix! Pogo came to us from Sumter County Animal Services. He spent months in care at Poodle and Pooch Rescue in FL where he was diagnosed with a golf-ball-sized tumor on his jaw. Sadly his foster mom passed away and Pogo was in immediate need of a forever home. Little Dog Ranch took him in. He is fitting in seamlessly with the family pack. Besides his meals, his favorite thing to do is to sit on the front porch waiting for a passerby. If that person happens to be on a bicycle going down the road... game on! Thank goodness for a fully fenced yard!

Pogo has already seen Dr. Steve Drum at our Colony Plaza Animal Hospital and will be seeing a soft tissue specialist at the Institute of Veterinary Specialists this coming week. Will keep you posted on whether surgery is in his future.

We have 10 dogs in care at Little Dog Ranch! Doodles, Papo, Osito, Izzy, Pita, Marty, Pogo, Louie, Charlie, and Bam Bam! Last week I took Marty, a shih tzu blend, to the Institute of Veterinary Specialists in Gainesville for a TECA -- Total Ear Canal Ablation. He came through with flying colors and will return to the Institute this coming Thursday to have his stitches removed. I'll let you know how he makes out!

Welcome Marty Or Mark... not 100% sure on his name yet! Was pretty much positive it would be Mark but once he got home it might not be the best fit. We will see you in the next day or so.Last minute drive to Tampa for pickup. Had been found as a stray on the street and needed to get out of the dog pound ASAP. As with the rest of the family, he's got some medical issues but nothing I don't think we can handle. He just ate a big dinner and is sleeping in a bed. The rest of the family has accepted him so voila, a fantastic addition to Little dog ranch.

It was a big day for Charlie... after arriving to Little Dog Ranch last weekend, it became more and more compelling to address some bad teeth in his mouth. Doc Drum and Michelle at Colony Plaza Animal Hospital did a masterful job of extracting 10 teeth and cleaning up the keepers. Zoom in to take a peek at the lower canines -- there are actually large holes in several places -- depressions that go clear to the pulp of each tooth! That had to hurt! Charlie is resting most comfortably at home and seems no worse for the wear -- truthfully, I think he feels better already!

With the Florida mosquitos, Heartworm is a REAL thing down here... not to mention fleas & ticks! Each month everyone gets a dose of prevention and these chews must taste good as "the kids" can't wait their turn!

A TOTAL SUCCESS! Bam Bam has now had both his inner ears operated on and he is 100% rid of a lifetime of nasty infections. We had enough funds to handle some other eye and body masses too, so he is now fit as a fiddle. He runs around with glee - very full of himself and eager to engage with his brothers & sisters. He eats like a champ and makes you wonder if he isn't a rather young dog. How cool is that?! We are so grateful to all of you who helped us with his surgeries. There is a nice doggie bed in heaven for you! Thanks very much... Bam, Cheryl, and the gang (Milo, Oscar, Doodles, Papo, Izzy, Pita, Salty, Louie, and Princess)
