It's here!!! The schedule for the Mustang Challenge Show is out!!! Owyhee and I are in all Platinum-in-Hand classes.

It's going to to be a tough competition, there are so many Amazing Horses and Trainers!
This year almost all of the trainers are showing South Steens Mustangs.
These mustangs are known for their size and unique coloring with lots of horses being pintos and many having blue eyes!!

Plus!
We perform to a freestyle to music!!! I'm gonna be getting me some Shania Twain for our freestyle!
I'll have more info as it gets closer to SHOWTIME!

Before you can adopt a Mustang you must fill out a BLM Application for Adoption, and be approved. It's easy to do, do it soon so there will be time for the BLM to process it.

Finally found a tape to measure Owyhee! Right now she's 14.3, but tapes out to be 15.3!! She's gonna be a big girl!
I swear one month she looks like she's filling out, then Whoop! there goes another growth spurt, and she looks like a lanky teenager!

She's going to be available on Sept 3rd

She's succeeded in completing all of her TIP requirements and we're working on making down the 'extras' and fun stuff.
She is turning into a gorgeous, well-mannered young lady and she takes most everything in stride.
She WILL be available on Sept at the auction.

Owyhee and I are looking for Sponsors for the rest of this competition! We have some amazing people and companies that have joined us to help provide the many items needed to get Owyhee healthy, gentle, trained and to outings to prepare he for the goal of the Mustang Challenge Sept. 1st thru 3rd.
She has become an incredible young lady through our first months of training, but there are a few more things we need to work on before she will be ready for the Challenge show and auction. I want to give her new family a willing, gentle horse with a strong start as a family member.

Playing around on the steps

Photo shoot today with Owyhee. Plus, a little playing around on the steps and about a mile of walking, trotting and stops on the canal road. She really put her heart into everything to do her best. She put up with a bath, total makeover, grooming, spraying and standing tied for 4 hours with the neighbors dog running around her and bringing her his toys to play.
She took it all like a pro. I love going out to work with her, she's not perfect, but she tries hard to please me and that's all I will ever ask of her is to be HER best. I'll happily take that. She WILL be available at auction!!

All dolled up. In the parade, me walking.. boy my feet hurt. She found another horse that looked just like her and kept checking it out. Then her reward for being a..umm..good horse and only running away once.

Getting Owyhee used to a tarp hasn't been a huge deal. She pretty much pawed it to death and then seems to sleep on it. She's been really good about letting me put most anything on her, she'll just walk around until it falls off.

Yesterday was a family dinner and my son and my daughter were able to rub Owyhee.
She really liked my son and walked up to him for continued rubs on her face neck, shoulders and back.

She's been eating out of the trailer for a few days, but when I approach she hurriedly backs out.

Having fun with Owyhee tonight. Most importantly, i got the halter on with just a little resistance.
She's teaching herself that the trailer isn't so bad. That stuff on the ground can be okay. And that not everything I have in my hands is edible.
You can see her lay her ears back a couple times because I was sitting on one side of the trailer and she wanted in.
She decided to check me out where I was.
As long as I don't go near the trailer while she's in it she was fine standing in it.

Yay!!! Owyhee finally felt comfortable enough to let me get a halter over her muzzle. I then let her in a small pasture to get some leg time and she enjoyed the heck out of it. Didn't know mustangs ate almost the same stuff as goats!! I wake her around the fenceline and she'd grab a mouthful of whatever w**d caught her eye. My boys decided to liberate her into the big pasture but I was able to catch her with just a little difficulty.
It seems like her brain has clicked in some way. She has been really willing to do what I have asked of her.
Having a lot more fun with her now. She's such a sweetheart. Going to be an awesome horse.

Leads so-so, still working on it

Walks across a trap usually
Several goals to meet yet, but getting there!

Trying something a bit different looks like it'll pay off. Able to move my hand over her poll, down her face, cheeks and jaw. Her ears and muzzle are a different matter. She struck me, even though I was standing by her side, just a glancing blow, when I started to move towards her muzzle. Does anyone know if they ear down the horses for branding? Or twitch for worming?
Trying to find possibilities of her extreme reactions. I understand the muzzle, that's her life line.
I was able to work on her feet and she quietly gave to the door and I was able to pick up her front feet and rub her front legs.
She's fresh- grass motivated.ive been rewarding her with it and she's leading alot better with a reward at the end of a circle of her pen.

No pictures unfortunately. Today was a day off firsts. I was able to rub and scratch Owyhee on the forehead multiple times throughout a long session. I was also able to work on her right side, where before she has always swung around to her left side when I got close to her. I was also able to get her to take steps to the side when I pull on the lead rope.
Overall, a very good day in Owyhee's journey!
