Today Taylor Sideroff and I welcomed a special stud c**t into the world. (Still pondering names, feel free to comment suggestions)
This one has been a long time coming.
His dam, Lady (HTS Shesa Lucky Lady), is out of a mare named Slic (Shesa Slic Banker). Slic was one of the best horses I’ve ever had the privilege to ride. She was a great horse to brand on, doctor on, play polo on etc. she would spin on a dime and leave 11s when she stopped. Before Slic ever stepped onto a polo field, she was a cutting horse, quick and athletic with the kind of instinct you can’t train into one. Later she proved herself again as an exceptional broodmare.
I bought Slic in 2015 from Jacque Fahsholtz and she became the foundation of something I truly believed in.
Slic was bred to Wizard (Two Tru Rare Wizard), a stallion owned by a very close friend and mentor of mine, Mary Jane Brown, who has helped me tremendously over the years. Ask MJ about my first experience with Wizard sometime 😂. That cross produced Lady.
The sire of this c**t is Famous (Dash on Command). A very close friend of mine, Randy L Thompson, stood Famous for many years on Whidbey Island, and played polo on him. Famous was an exceptional polo horse. He was tough, smart, and honest and FAST. As Randy would say, “WHAT A HORSE!” Famous has a reputation for producing very kind, willing, smart, and athletic c**ts that have proven themselves in many fields. Randy later gave Famous to me to care for, something I’ll always be grateful for.
As you can see this c**t carries a lot of history behind him! Cutting/Ranch horse instinct, polo horse heart, and the influence of some great people who’ve helped me along the way.
When I bought Slic back in 2015, I had a vision for the kind of horse I hoped to raise someday. Eleven years of breeding decisions, patience, and faith eventually led to this morning.
Scripture says:
“The horse is prepared for the day of battle,
but victory belongs to the Lord.” — Proverbs 21:31
We can plan bloodlines and try to stack the odds the best we can, but life itself is still a gift.
Watching this newborn c**t stand beside his mother in the pasture brings this verse to mind:
“Do you give the horse its strength
or clothe its neck with a flowing mane?” — Job 39:19
Eleven years of planning and faith—now standing on four long legs beside his mother in the pasture.
Pretty special day for us!
