Seriously..... what is it with me and jumping horses? Is it a sign i should start eventing or hunter/ jumper?

Thea is a half draft mare who is staying me for some training while she looks for her perfect forever home. She's been with me a week in her own roomy lot where she can see the other horses and run and buck. Two days ago, I opened my gelding pen (directly across from her) onto the pasture, and the boys have been in and out. When they are out, she gets a little antsy, but nothing crazy..... until now!!

I just can't with this nonsense!! And of course, she does this after I leave for a day trip to Wyoming! (Ranch Hand is on-site so she closed up the panels I have across the driveway until I can get home and grab her (one of the things she is here for is to work on letting anyone walk up and halter her). She appears just fine, but I'll give her a good evaluation when I get home!

Let me know if you are interested in a big beautiful half draft that could ALMOST clear a 5ft fence! i hear a horse that doesn't refuse a fence is worth it's weight in gold!

I love getting to teach badass women how to be badass ranch/ farm women. It's not easy moving 1400+ pounds 16 feet in the air with only an inch or two of room to avoid taking out the rafters on the hay barn. I'm so happy to have my new ranch hand here! She's been invaluable in the one week since she's arrived.

My dearest Peanut, I don't even know what to say. You have been with our family for so long. You have made us laugh and curse and love you. I've never met a smarter, calmer, crazier, more frustrating horse than you. I'm glad you got to pass surrounded by the herd you loved so much.

I'm very grateful to my neighbors for coming over and helping me lay him to rest with their very big machines and to Lars rushing up here from the valley to be with me.

Peanut, I hope Jake and Poco were prancing at the rainbow bridge, I bet they were so excited to see you after all these years. I'll take good care of Apache, the last of our original herd, until he's ready to join you all.

First full sits for baby blue! I'm still letting the babies grow and mature, and letting their growth plates set before I ever actually ride them. Gallifrey hasn't lined up to the fence for me like Centurion does, until today!!! We got first full weight sits and I then pull myself off with the panel, and he didn't run away. I like the consent I got today!

This isn't the greatest photo. But it means the world to me. Tequila and I have not ridden in forever. Probably 2 years. He was feeling pain, frustration, and anger, and I just let him have his space. I've been incredibly depressed and anxious for a while, and I've lost all drive and motivation for the horses.

Tonight, I desperately needed some equine therapy and decided to go ride Felina to force myself to feel better. I walked into the paddock, and Tequila stared so hard into my soul, I asked him if he would be willing to take care of me tonight. And boy, did he ever. In the dark, ba****ck, hasn't been ridden in 2 years.... and he just hacks out like the partner he's always been. I'm beyond grateful for his gift and time tonight. I hope him and I can continue to move forward and rebuild our riding time together.

I know a lot of people are feeling burnout lately. I have no great words for you, but hold tight, give yourself space, and utilize therapy. Equine therapy is especially awesome, IMHO.

We are getting pounded with snow right now, YAY FOR OUR WATER LEVELS!

Husband was on the tractor plowing out 1 ft of snow for 5 hours yesterday and we woke up to another foot covering his work. We have a long driveway from the street to the house and again to the hay and horses.

These two amazing neighbors just showed up with their equipment and said they were just wanting to help me out. Great people are found everywhere. Thank you small town friends, I appreciate you immensely.

P.S. I have tried to offer them money and they won't take it.

Riding babies.... one thing I choose not to do, based on science, is ride a baby. Out west, it is common for people to climb on two year old horses, and we don't have time to dive into that alternate mindset. To me and my vets, riding babies doesn't work. I think my babies also appreciate being allowed to grow up and develop. Not riding doesn't mean i don't play with them or take them for trail walks to prep for their future though.

Gallifrey and Centurion turned 2 this year and they are the friendliest little monsters. Nothing scares them and people are their favorite thing. The other day I was climbing panels between pens and the boys were hanging out playing with my nephew (who took the photo). I used this time to see how G would react to me rubbing his back from above with my hands, no negative reaction, so my foot, and my leg. I was using my leg on the panel and both arms to fully support my body and weight while my one free leg gently explored. G was free to walk away at any time as he was unhaltered and running free in his paddock. This is how I prefer to work with the Littles as the grow and develop their minds and bodies.

G DID WONDERFUL and didn't even care that I was up there. I'm so in love with these little toddlers (I should probably stop calling them the babies since they are growing like weeds!). I think introducing a lightweight kid's saddle is coming up next in our training!

Got to take the goodest wild girl for her first walk off the property today. I am so incredibly lucky to have the clients I have who trust me to spend time hanging out with their heart horses.

Eden is such a smart girl with the best mommy who did an incredible job taking her from wild to trusting. I'm just stepping in to help with some basic groundwork skills as she continues to grow and develop in the crazy domestic world.

I really love the time I get to spend with this perfect princess!

Scraping, prepping, seeding, praying for rain. Hopefully this seed takes and makes another beautiful lush and delicious section of yum for my Rays of Sunshine to eat. Owning horses means most of my non work to pay bills time (and money) is devoted to chores, not riding and training. But they are worth it. I do the fun stuff when I can, but their well being is my first priority.

Centurion's first run. 2 days old and getting to go on his first pasture outing. Man this baby is CUTE! The differences in horsenality between Gallifrey and him are already very evident. I can't wait to get to know him better as he grows up.

Today Gallifrey had the Zoom Zooms. He was so brave running up in the trees so far away from his mommy. We love to just sit here and watch him grow up. Such a blessing to the Sunshine Clan. Rowan's friend LuLu (Luala) was having a really hard time adapting to this new life. Maddy let her out into the big pen and moved her closer to the more confident horses. It appears Rowan and Lulu are besties and are so happy to be near each other again. Wild horses are so incredible to watch and train. Amos Check In! I gave him a week to settle and then got back into things with this big guy. Before Mustang Maddy and Ridgway, Amos couldn't be caught without separating and cornering him. He'd freeze and shake with stress and fear. I'm so awkward to this new training method but I truly love the results I've seen.
