The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. Usually the mantis makes an appearance wh
en we've flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small voice within us because of the external din we've created. It was here, at what was Busy B Farm, where we saw these fascinating creatures, the praying mantis on every visit. It seemed to be a sign of good fortune and represented the peace, calm, and magic that we were looking for in our lives.

This was my first time going to this show, it was well run as is to be expected by the Wilsons. The facility required off the trailer showing, you could definitely tell who was ABGA and who was jackpotting by trailer set-ups! It was ridiculously hot and dusty, but the facility was graciously provided by Dill’s Auction and it worked perfectly! All the girls brought home at least one banner, except 1 who was 1st in a class of 10. Proud of them all especially considering the heat and the amount of time spent in the trailer.

Was wonderful to watch Dirty Valentine (DV) do showmanship with Elle D. and handle her in the ABGA show. DV is quite the character and has just a phenomenal demeanor. Made my heart happy. ❤️

This handsome Italian Maremma pup will be coming home from California with me. Meatball just got his health cert and his first ride in a crate.
Next trip will be to LAX for an overnight flight with me to Virginia.
These are incredible dogs. We have watched his parents (and siblings) work all week with goats and poultry and they are great - what a livestock gaurdian should be! Natural instinct in these genetics is strong!

As farms start to head out for their journey to ABGA Nationals in Louisville KY, we will be home this year. 💔
I felt like I needed to take a moment and remember how blessed we are…
2023 Nationals was one to remember for Mantodea Farm and its “snow does”. I had some great portraits made to remember (just need a place to hang them).
BUT last month I was surprised by an incredible gift from Stacey and Lexi Johnson, whom accompanied us at Natls last year with a blonde doe we had bred and was a part of our special moment.
This beautiful gift is a display of all 4 does out of RBMG Blondie (Doe of Excellence) that won the National Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Doe Herd. Each is hand painted to represent all 4 does. Rebecka Knotts of The Opulent Goat made this gorgeous piece.

We were so fortunate to spend this past week in February 2024 in the warm and sunny beaches of Mexico filling our soul with beautiful music and sunshine.
Vs the heartbreak and hell we had on our farm in February 2023. I could not tell you how many times we almost walked away, but my love for these beautiful boers could not be buried no matter how many holes we filled.
These goats may have sucked some of the life out of our farm, our bodies, and more, but a little fluffy white doe named Sovanna Snow (and her showstring friends) put that much more back into me.
How it has gone this long that I have not given her more credit for what she did in the ring and for my soul in 2023, I do not know. But after this week of rest, reflection, the healing powers of music, I could not be more grateful for her, all of our show string, and all that have supported us this past year from more ways than I could list.
The show girls just crushed it all season long and I just could not be prouder of the accomplishments they earned in 2023!

We cut back quite a bit with our goat herd this year and didn’t breed for fall kids or flush - so weird not having kids on the ground right now…
But we were able to take a couple of my favorites to Applied Reproductive Concepts, experiment with a few new bucks as well as some classic go-to’s, and now have a mixed bag of ~50 embryos to put into the tank for future implant date(s).
This will be a test of patience for sure as most likely none of these will be put in recips til next fall.

Sharing an opinion that the Blue Ridge Boer Goat Breeders Association posted recently which we thought was not only very well written, but clearly thought through by that organization’s board with the most recent topic of golpher ears and impact of frequent changes to the ABGA breed standards.
We breed here on our farm what we like, which some years might work others may not.
BUT breed standards should not change as frequently as the lastest fad.

2023 KGPA SHOW SERIES
Tonight we attended the Keystone Goat Producers Association (KGPA) dinner and year-end awards. Many thanks to the Board and its members who not only host a series of great shows but support the youth of our industry and our goat industry/community.
I am overdue re-capping the great year our show string has had, but will start here with tonights 2023 KGPA series results:
MANTODEA SOVANNA SNOW may have only attended 6 shows (2 weekends) but with 6 Overall Grand Champions at these KGPA Series shows she clinched the
🏆HIGH POINT KGPA PERCENTAGE DOE!
Right behind Sovanna was her half sister, MANTODEA CHARLIZE, with the
🏆HIGH POINT RESERVE KGPA PERCENTAGE DOE!
Our STILLHOUSE SNOW DUCK, finished 9th overall and MANTODEA MONA LISA was 13th!

Out of 133 does, our fullblood does finished with a tie for 5th with MANTODEA SHORT CIRCUIT and LCR95 TEMPTATION, then MANTODEA DIRTY VALENTINE was 8th, and MANTODEA BRANDY 12th.

Time for a cattle update. We are looking forward to our first AI this week for 3 of our cows. Our two registered British White Cattle (BWCAA) gals: ⚪️RHCC Brunhilde 445D “Hilde” (2016 PB model w/ RSTD red tipped markings markings) ⚪️RHCC Cyndy Lou 605G (2019 PB model w/ STD black tip markings) and our smaller framed PB White Dexter, ⚪️ “Lucy” w/ STD black tip markings They are all going to bred to CNJ Cattle Company-Derr Ridge’s “HH MONTGOMERY”. Montgomery is a Silver, registered American Highland Bull, that at 4 yrs old stands just 41” tall and has a beautiful thick coat with gorgeous long Highland locks down his broad head. Hopefully all three will take and we can look forward to calves in 2024!
