Mantodea Farm Take everything in stride… Pronunciation: man-TOE-dee-ah

With its large eyes and swiveling head, the mantid entertains and fascinates us.

Most people call members of the suborder Mantodea praying mantises, referring to their prayer-like posture when sitting. Mantis is a Greek word meaning prophet or soothsayer. The mantis comes to us when we need peace, quiet and calm in our lives. Usually the mantis makes an appearance when we've flooded our lives with so much business, activity, or chaos that we can no longer hear the still small

voice within us because of the external din we've created. It was here, at what was Busy B Farm, where we saw these fascinating creatures, the praying mantis on every visit. It seemed to be a sign of good fortune and represented the peace, calm, and magic that we were looking for in our lives.

Squeezed in some time after a nice ride on Flor to work with UTOPIA CAL “Pia” - I am biased, but gosh I think she is the most gorgeous filly 💛 She is about to be 13 mos. old.

Gorgeous weather and a great day to get a nice ride in.

Flor d’Atela apparently did not appreciate staying clean after her bubble bath. But with all the dust in her ‘fluffy’ paddock at least the dust blends with her flea bitten tan specks.

John has had a Freeform treeless saddle for hard to fit Betsy (Clydesdale) for years, I was still a skeptic. BUT, I am proud to say I am now an owner of a Freeform saddle for my very round shorter backed with super wide shoulders mare Flor. The saddle is beautiful, the quality of this Italian made saddle is superb. Highly recommend talking to them. I am pretty conservative in my following of protocols and norms - but it is time for a more comfortable experience for me and my horse. Will post pictures soon of Flor and I in our Pathfinder PJ!

Feels so good to see breeders have success with our Mantodea bred animals. VA’s Rockingham County fair is its largest agricultural fair in the state and the competition can be fierce.

We are excited to announce our newest addition!

🪷Flor d'Atela🪷

Flor (like flower) is a Lusitano,
APSL registered and revised 2010 mare, imported directly from Portugal by Cielo Azure Lusitanos. We are thankful to Drs Robert and Jill Malone of Cielo Azure Lusitanos for this opportunity to have Flor in our program.

Flor was bred by Coudelaria Bessa de Carvalho, Lusitanos d’Atela, and scored 74.5 on inspection. She is sired by one of the top Grand Prix Dressage Lusitano Stallions, Soberano.

She is athletic, smart, and extremely talented with exceptional movement and is a proven dam with 5 outstanding foals on the ground. Flor was the Mare Champion of Champions at the ERAHC and was Reserve Champion, level 3: ERAHC working equitation in 2016.

We are looking forward to having Flor as a proven broodmare in our program, and a starting point for Stephanie (and Flor) to get back in riding shape and play a bit with some local Working Equitation until being bred next spring.

I could not be more thankful.

What an amazing group of people that put on the A Splash of Color Boer Goat Sale, so inviting and supportive of our farm. And what an organized and professional group. Perry, I really appreciate you as well as everyone else that leaned in and welcomed us. Just wish it wasn’t the last time…

Thankful for buyers from across the world and even more blessed for all those that purchased from right here in our special goat community in the Mid-Atlantic.

I am not sure I would have literally gotten there much less through the weekend without the help of Carrie Miller, Patrick Aliff and my mom, Rae Carson. And all those that kept things running at home, John, Tiffani and Steve. It was a scramble from beginning to end, but could not be more blessed to be surrounded with such special people.

I hope all those that purchased our animals love them as much as I have.
