On buying a puppy... it has always amazed me that intelligent, university-educated people who are prepared to spend many weekends visiting car show rooms and test-driving vehicles want to buy a puppy in less time than it takes to purchase a toaster at Target. How about comparison shopping? Doing your research? Talking to veterinarians, and friends and workmates who own healthy, well-bred puppies? Everyone wants to go to a website, find the name of a model breeder who lives 20 miles away or less, and pick up a happy, freshly bathed puppy with a big bow around its neck. Preferably the same day! And you'll all live happily ever after. Guess what? I've bought defective cars and crummy blenders that came from well-known manufacturers. If you're going to bring a puppy into your home, don't expect anyone else to do your homework for you. Proceed with caution. Visit many breeders. Read books. Consult parent club websites whose content is factual and unbiased. Due diligence generally ensures happy results.

Dear future "working home,"

While I know you have dreams of podiums when you bring your little working line puppy home, you have a much bigger responsibility to this little puppy I'm trusting to you.

That's great that you've researched pedigrees, have a club and maybe even a solid mentor. That's amazing that you have all the latest tug toys and a custom wide agitation collar with his name embroidered on it. And I'm really stoked that you already have his instagram loaded with fire emoji's detailing his daily puppy training sessions.

But over and over, my puppies are FAILED by their working home owners. Owners who look amazing on paper. Owners who have all the goals and dreams for their little puppy. And it's not just MY working home owners. I know other breeders who feel this same pain as they send their little ones out into this world. Knowing that these puppies who could excel at so many things are going to be set up for failure by the first people who have their hands on them.

How are they being failed?

By s**t advice. S**t advice from the clubs that are mentoring them. S**t advice from the internet. S**t advice from those around them.

I'll scream it from the roof tops ....

Stop taking these working prospects and shoving them in crates, only to come out for "work" in the name of drive building. If they need full deprivation to "work" then the genetics aren't there in the first place.

Stop taking these working prospects and controlling every single morsel of food to the point of deprivation, over long periods of time. If the food drive is that bad, the genetics aren't there in the first place.

Stop taking these working prospects and never letting anyone touch your puppy. "He should treat people like furniture." Yeah ... solid advice for some puppies but I know when you wash this dog in 18 months, I now have a full size adult intact male Rottweiler who's never been handled by strangers. Great, thanks.

Stop taking these working prospects and never letting them interact with another dog or animal. "He should be neutral to dogs." Yeah ... great ... now you wash this dog in 12 months and I have a full size intact male Rottweiler who doesn't know how he feels about his own species.

Stop taking these working prospects and never telling them "no" because you want them to be strong on the field. Great....now when you return King Kong to me, he isn't really going to know what to do with those big feelings when that's not how the world works.

Stop depriving your working line puppies of a solid start in life ... because when you wash that dog from sport for an issue YOU created .... now I have to clean up the mess.

Raise your puppy for sport however you want, but at the end of the day if that dog doesn't pan out for sport you are giving them a death sentence if you haven't also raised them with a pet dog life in mind.

The D litter is a week old today 🥰

This litter was larger than expected, so there are still puppies available. If you’re potentially interested, please reach out!

Britta is being an exceptional mother. We’re lucky and grateful that the whelping went smoothly. My 3 year old chose the color bands for each puppy before they whelped (yes…mama let my kids in the whelping room from the get go, that’s how stable she is despite her ability to work). So we have some odd color choices🤣

Black, Pink, Blue and Yellow are the girls.
Green, Silver, Orange, Red, and Purple are the boys.

These puppies are being raised in our house, with all the chaos that three children under 8 bring with them. We’re also in the middle of Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) (which I am finding absolutely fascinating! 🤩)

The entire litter is super consistent so far - weights, activeness, pushiness to nurse etc. I couldn’t be happier with them all and can’t wait to see them continue to develop!

🥳PREGNANCY CONFIRMED🥳

I am super excited to report that Britta vom Cama Wabak (Britta or BB) is confirmed pregnant to Anung un Rama van het Bos (Hellboy or HB). 😂

Where to start…if you’re looking for a high level IGP prospect, this is your litter.

Britta and her two brothers are actively being trained in all three phases of IGP. Her sister will hopefully be HRD certified this summer. Her sire, XWarik von Brukroft IGP3 AD ZTP, competed at the AWDF, the WDC (x2), DVG Nationals, USRC Nationals, USCA regionals, and the RKNA Meistershaft. Her dam was titled to IGP1 here in the US. Her maternal grand dam was titled to IGP3 here in the US and her maternal grandsire was titled to IGP3 FH and competed at both USRC Nationals (went HIT in 2014) and the RKNA Meistershaft (Vice Champion to Warik). Her maternal uncle recently earned his IGP3 with a 92-92-94 under a USCA judge.

Britta’s heart was cleared via echo; she has her CHIC; and is JLPP, NAD, and LEMP clear.

Hellboy’s heart was also cleared via echo; has his CHIC; and is JLPP and LEMP clear (he does carry one copy of NAD). He also competed at the AWDF, DVG regionals and Nationals, USRC Nationals, and the IFR. He won Helper’s Choice FIVE times in his working career, including at the 2018 AWDF National Championship. HB’s son, Grimm, just placed at a USCA regional and competed at the WDC.

There is some good longevity in this pedigree too. HB’s dam is still alive at 12.5 and BB’s maternal grandsire is still alive and well at almost 12. Her sire lived to be almost 12 too.

Ivy van het Bos attended the 2022 USRC Nationals this past weekend. She played with two of her litter mate siblings, met a cat, goats, chickens, geese and miniature horses. Handed her leash off to as many people as I could and she was a total rockstar. We had a little car sickness the drive there but no issues all weekend and no issues the 7 hour drive home. 🙌
