Buddy boy! Straight off the streets and into training. This dog didn’t even know how to sit or take a treat last week!
Clipping your dogs nails!
This obviously looks to be the most stressful part of grooming a dog for most people, and it makes perfect sense! There’s several things to take into consideration here and I believe that starts with the clippers you purchase.
From there you have to desensitize and create positive associations with the tool and the action.
Some dogs may be easy, others may be much more difficult. If your dog has already learned that it’s stressful, you will have to work 3x as hard.
These clippers are less than $10 on Amazon and are “Millers Forge” make

Vegetarian dog Mimi! Two week board and train.
You should have seen how reactive this GSD puppy was the first several days! She’s doing so well.
The lab sisters! Izzy and Hope only 4 and 5 months old! These girls have come so far in just two weeks of training. Working on obedience, boundaries, environmental exposure and still potty training. #lab #labrador #labpuppy #puppy #dogtraining #trainer #cute #sisters #puppies #puppiesofinstagram #labsofinstagram
A nice progress report from GHOST! The huge GSD husky mix. He’s come a very long way in only two weeks but still has a lot to prove! #progress #gsd #husky #aggression #rehab #dogtraining #dogtrainer
Let’s talk about FOOD DRIVE!
If your dog doesn’t have good food drive it’s more than likely one of three things.
1. They are over fed/ spoiled
2. They do not appreciate their food
3. They just are not used to training for food
I haven’t worked my dogs for weeks or possibly even moths I hate to admit. But look how motivated they are to work for a meal that they get every single day, twice a day.
If you’re struggling with motivating your dog, keeping your dogs engagement, redirecting your dog from distractions or being reactive, elaborating on your existing training etc
Try consistently working your dog for their meals. Not just a day or two but several days or even weeks. You may skip a meal here and there especially at the beginning and that’s ok. Many would say a 24 hour fast is good for a dogs health! Just like it can be for a humans. I fasted about 20 hours today personally.
Make training fun and valuable! If your dog isn’t interested in listening, they probably simply don’t find value in you or training with you.
Millie
Millie girl is night and day difference! Just ask her owner. She was super reactive to the point where she couldn’t even be taken on walks.
No food or toy needed.
The release is the motivator.
The release becomes the reward.

REDIRECTION!
One of if not the most important principals in dog training. If you cannot quickly and effectively redirect your dog when reactive, fearful, overstimulated, hyper focused etc you’ll always struggle.
