Please be aware that a case of West Nile has been diagnosed in the upstate of SC. If it's been 6 months or longer since your horse's West Nile vaccine, a booster is recommended. Contact us or your regular veterinarian for further assistance!

A 4-year-old horse in Pickens County tested positive for West Nile virus and was euthanized, according to Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health

‼️The State Veterinarian’s office received laboratory confirmation from NVSL of the 2nd & 3rd cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in SC in 2024. The first one on 7/18/24 was an unvaccinated 5 yr old TB Gelding from Dorchester County. Unfortunately, it had to be euthanized. The second case on 8/8/24 was an unvaccinated 2 yr old QH filly in Horry County. And this filly is still alive, and recovering!‼️

Be cognizant that after the departure of Debby from SC, there will be a lot of standing water, attracting mosquitoes, so we may see a spike in Encephalitis cases.
