Update # 2 – Sentencing Information – Former Director of Humane Society of the Nature Coast Sentenced to Prison – 2022-02131

Date: October 13, 2023

Update #2

On 10-12-2023, Susana Arneson DOB/10-21-1983, appeared in Circuit Court before Judge Daniel Merritt Jr. for sentencing on charges of Money Laundering – Financial Transactions $100,000 or more and Organized Fraud – $50,000 or more.

Judge Merritt Jr. ultimately sentenced Arneson to 90 months with the Florida Department of Corrections with 611 days of credit for time served. Arneson has remained incarcerated at the Hernando County Detention Center since her arrest on 02-09-2022. The amount of restitution is pending.

The case involving Arneson’s husband, Douglas O’Berry DOB/09-27-1983, remains open.

In a waiver of rights and plea agreement filed on Aug. 15, 2023, Susana Arneson DOB/10-21-1983, pled nolo contendere to charges of Money Laundering – Financial Transactions $100,000 or more and Organized Fraud – $50,000 or more.

Arneson’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 12, 2023.

Original information

Representatives at the Humane Society of the Nature Coast discovered an employee, Susana Arneson DOB/10-21-1983, had intercepted nearly $1.55 million in donations meant for the shelter and redirected those funds into various banking accounts she had access to. This occurred between the dates of 01-31-2020 and 02-09-2022.

Arneson served as a Director, and later a volunteer at the Humane Society of the Nature Coast during this time.

Investigation revealed the Arneson and her husband, Douglas O’Berry DOB/09-27-1983, used the stolen funds to purchase various assets to include two residential properties, items for two businesses, two boats and trailers, two trucks, a Jeep Wrangler, a custom golf cart, a horse, along with multiple other items within the home and garage of their residence.

Arneson and O’Berry were originally arrested on 02-09-2022 on charges of Money Laundering, Organized Fraud, and Grand Theft.

Most of you know I dive. I didn't know him personally but he was one of the TOP cave divers in the WORLD. Huggge loss to the scuba diving cave scientific exploration community. He died doing what he loved.. rest in peace 🤙😥

Sheriff Nienhuis and the men and women of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office would like to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Brett Hemphill as well as the entire Karst Underwater Research organization.

Mr. Hemphill passed away last week during an exploration dive in Phantom Cave Springs located in Texas.

Mr. Hemphill, a highly skilled local cave diver and president of Karst Underwater Research, has assisted the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office in the past with highly technical cave dive recoveries. His willingness to volunteer his time and skills to our agency has helped return loved ones to their family during times of tragedy.

Mr. Hemphill has also been leading a team of underwater cave explorers in the exploration of the Weeki Wachee Cave System as well as other local cave systems, which are still being explored to this day. His contributions to these explorations give researchers a better understanding of our cave systems and aquifers so that they may be better protected for generations to come.

Thank you for your service to the sheriff’s office and the community.

LOCATED – Missing Juvenile – Justice Young – 2023-31330

Justice Young was located and recovered by law enforcement in Marion County.

Original information

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public and from our media partners in locating Missing Juvenile Justice Jacquez Young DOB/06-18-2006.

Justice Young was last seen on 10-02-2023 at approximately 2:45 a.m., in the area of his residence on Duke Street in the City of Brooksville.

After taking the Missing Person report, deputies spotted Young walking on N. Main Street in the City of Brooksville. Upon seeing a patrol car, Young fled. Several deputies conducted a thorough check of the area but were unable to locate Young.

Young does not have a cell phone with him. His whereabouts are unknown at this time.

Justice Young’s physical description is as follows:
Race – Black
S*x – Male
Height – 5’8”
Weight – 130 Pounds
Hair Color – Brown
Eye Color – Brown
Clothing – Unknown.

Lost Dog

After 28 yrs servicing the Islips and south shore it is With a very heavy heart, I have to announce for personal reasons, I am closing shop here on Long Island. To the so many clients I have, I am eternally grateful for having the best people I could build a relationship with. I will post later on the shop I am referring out to. Good morning all. I'm sooo appreciative to all of you. I NEVER get fleas because you guys are the bestest pet parents ever! Let's talk ticks though please. 1 of these guys is an indoor sh*tzu I pulled 4 off of. Lyme disease is no joke. We didn't have a winter, so the season really never ended. Plse don't assume, just get them on meds, whatever you choose. 🐾
