All CAMPers are vaccinated against parvovirus, but just an FYI!

All CAMPers are vaccinated against parvovirus, but just an FYI!

🐾 Pet Parents! Here's a friendly (and furry) health alert 🐾
Florida is currently experiencing elevated Parvo activity with over 1,300 confirmed cases statewide (30 in Cape Coral alone!), so the threat is very real.

Parvovirus is a scary, but preventable, virus that can threaten puppies and unvaccinated adult dogs. The good news? Vaccination is your best defense!

Key Facts
The Parvo vaccine is a core vaccine—recommended for all dogs.
Puppies: Start vaccines at 6–8 weeks, booster every 2-4 weeks until at least 16 weeks.
Adults: If unvaccinated or uncertain, get two shots ( vaccines) spaced 2–4 weeks apart.
Boosters: First booster within a year, then every 1-3 years depending on your dog’s potential exposure risk.

Treatment & Prevention
A CPMA monoclonal antibody treatment is a newly developed treatment with a high success rate.
We’ve used this treatment with very good outcomes!
Recently this treatment saved 27 Parvo-infected puppies in Brevard County! However, prevention through vaccination is far safer and more effective.

👉 Tip: Regular veterinary visits build healthier pups and a safer community. Let’s keep our furry family members wagging longer and stronger!

As we head into the fall season, keeping your pup well-groomed can go a long way in ensuring they're safe, comfortable, and lookin' good. This week, we’re sharing simple tips when it comes to brushing your dog:

✨ Dogs shed their summer coats to prepare for a thicker winter coat, so regular brushing is key to removing dead hair and preventing matting.

✨ Use tools like slicker brushes or shedding blades, especially for double or long-haired breeds, to effectively remove loose fur.

✨ Consider a Professional De-Shedding Treatment - If your dog has a particularly thick or double coat, a professional groomer can perform a de-shedding treatment to remove loose undercoat and improve ventilation.

Not sure how often to brush? Your groomer can guide you based on your dog’s coat type. Your pup will love the extra care. 🐶🍂

About us

Husband and wife team Brandi and Michael have always loved dogs. Brandi grew up in Cobourg, ON and pursued a career in academic research – focused upon animal cognition – that took her to Kingston, ON, Vancouver, BC, Palo Alto, CA and finally to Gainesville, FL. Brandi’s beloved husky/lab cross Jasper made the trek with her from Vancouver to Palo Alto and finally to Gainesville. Brandi and Jasper quickly fell in love with Gainesville but discovered that Gainesville needed an amazing place for dogs to play, socialize and stay when their parents go away.

Michael grew up in Bolingbrook, IL and has a corporate background in customer service, accounts receivable, operations management and land/air logistics. Michael joined Brandi and Jasper in Gainesville several years ago. In 2018, Michael and Brandi decided to combine their love for dogs with their respective expertises to open Camp Run-A-Mutt, Gainesville. They knew it was the kind of paradise that Jasper would have loved – a place to splash around and play all day long with people and furry friends (this one’s for you buddy!).

Michael and Brandi, now parents to 3 little rescue mutts named Wiggy (a zany little Australian Cattle dog mix), Tish (a playful Black-mouthed Cur Mix) and Bella (a sweet Golden Retriever mix tripawd who is a bit of a local celebrity after surviving 9 months alone in the wild) are super excited to be bringing Camp Run-A-Mutt to Gainesville. You can leave your fur babies guilt- (and completely cage-) free for daycare while you work or for boarding while you vacation. Mike, Brandi and their employees will give your fur babies all of the love, fun and care that they get at home!
