HALL CO. ANIMAL SHELTER ASKING FOR COMMUNITY'S HELP FOSTERING, ADOPTING TO ALLEVIATE SPACE CONTRAINTS

The Hall County Animal Shelter is calling on the community for help to foster, adopt and spread the word as shelter numbers increase, resulting in an 18-dog Urgent Adoption Notice.

“The community has stepped up in a big way since implementing our Urgent Adoption Notices,” Director of Hall County Animal Services Trey Garcia said. “We couldn’t provide the level of service we do without their continued support, and this week, we need it even more.”

The shelter is currently promoting a “Shelter Speed Dating” program for the month of February in a proactive effort to address space constraints; however, following the recent impoundment of 67 dogs, the need for fosters and adopters has become even more critical.

“Our goal is always to work with owners and in the best interest of the animals involved,” Garcia said. “Unfortunately, in these types of situations where we must impound a large number of animals, space and care constraints are placed on our facility as we provide for the large influx of intakes, meaning we have to rely on the community to foster and adopt to ensure we meet the needs of every intake.”

To browse the Hall County Animal Shelter’s adoptable pets and to learn more about fostering and adopting programs, visit Hall County Animal Services online at hallcounty.org, call the shelter at 678-450-1587 or stop by the facility, located at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville, during normal business hours Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

🚨 New Ordinance Alert for Hall County! 🚨

Revisions have been made to Title 4, Chapter 4.10 of the Official Code of Hall County, Georgia to help improve animal identification and reunification!

From now on, all domesticated animals (other than community cats) will be required to be microchipped before leaving the Hall County Animal Shelter.

Why is this important? Microchipping helps ensure that lost pets can be quickly reunited with their owners! The unique ID number from each microchip will be recorded in the Department of Animal Services' records, making it easier for shelters and pet owners to find each other.

💗Fantastic Foster Alert💗

💥Here is a pupdate from Gourds foster parents💥

Gordy (shelter name Gourd) is Hands down the EASIEST dog we have ever fostered, Gordy is estimated at 4-year-old and probably weighs ~35 pounds (though he is still very thin). He is quite timid and shy, especially with new people. He is perfectly house trained, rarely barks, and spends most of his day silently lounging on a dog bed. While his demeanor is very calm and timid, it’s cute how excited he gets when you pick up his leash and he realizes he’s going somewhere! He is a great leash walker and is easy to handle and redirect.

Gordy loves our neighborhood dog park and has made many dog friends there. He’s friendly with ALL dogs and has also spent a day peacefully co-existing with a CAT! He takes cues from other animals, and immediately backs off and walks away if another dog isn’t interested in playing. He’s very respectful and doesn’t come on strong. He loves to welcome each new arrival at the dog park and really looks forward to his time there.

Gordy is crate trained, but we are now leaving him uncrated in the house for short periods of time and he has yet to disturb anything. He loves his bed and blanket and sleeps on his bed on the floor of our bedroom overnight. We have not successfully coaxed him onto the furniture in the house, despite repeated attempts… he just refuses to get on the couch… so we assume this is a behavior he learned in a previous home.

It takes a while for Gordy to warm up to people and I wouldn’t call him cuddly. But out and about he regularly “checks in” and stays close to his people. He pushes up against us for hugs and pets, but doesn’t kiss (a big plus in my book!). He likes affection but doesn’t really snuggle, as he won’t join his people on the furniture. 😞
Gordy was found as a stray in Hall County. He’s a great eater and is food motivated. He has learned “sit”, “wait” and “crate” in the 2 weeks we’ve had him.

We want to match Gordy with a perfect forever home and family. We think he would do really well with another dog in the home, and might gain confidence more quickly with a role model. But he’s also been a perfect “only” dog in our home. So much so that it has taken 2 weeks for us to even think about advertising him!
They just don’t come sweeter, cuter or easier. He’s a wonderful loyal companion and anyone lucky enough to adopt him will have hit the jackpot!

If you are interested in meeting Gordy/Gourd, please call the shelter to schedule an appointment!

HALL COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER PROMOTES 'SHELTER SPEED DATING' THROUGHOUT FEBRUARY

The Hall County Animal Shelter is offering pets and their potential families an opportunity to fall in love throughout the month of February with its “Shelter Speed Dating” initiative.

“Our ‘Shelter Speed Dating’ event is an amazing opportunity for people looking to adopt or simply spend the day with one of our adoptable dogs,” Hall County Animal Shelter Manager Stephanie Maloch said. “There is no better way to get to know one of our animals than by spending one-on-one, quality time with each other outside of the shelter so you can better determine whether you are a perfect match.”

As part of the “Shelter Speed Dating” initiative, dog lovers can participate in “Doggy Day Out,” which allows citizens to take one of the shelter’s adoptable dogs out for the day, helping to socialize the dogs and get them one step closer to finding a forever home before making a lifelong commitment. To participate, you must register as a volunteer with the Hall County Animal Shelter.

“For those seeking a more long-term bonding experience, we recommend participating in our ‘Foster to Adopt’ program. This program allows you to temporarily bring a shelter pet into your home, with the option to adopt once the relationship is established between the pet and potential pet owner,” Maloch said. “The process is a little bit different because citizens will have to be registered as an approved foster and meet all requirements before they can take a pet home, but we will help make that process as easy as possible.”

For more information about volunteering, fostering and adopting, visit the Hall County Animal Shelter online at hallcounty.org.

For questions about the February promotion, contact the Animal Shelter at 678-450-1587 or stop by during regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville.

✨CAMEO✨

Meet Cameo, a sweet and resilient soul who has been through so much in her 12 years of life. Cameo started her journey at a shelter in 2015, and after being adopted, she thought she had finally found her forever home.

Unfortunately, in December 2024, Cameo found herself back in the system, brought in as a stray by animal control. She was on the urgent list just last week and, thankfully, found another home. But only three days later, she was returned. The other dog in the household was aggressive and territorial, and Cameo just wanted to defend herself.

Now, Cameo is back and still waiting for the right family who will provide the loving, peaceful retirement she deserves. She is heartworm positive, but thanks to the incredible support from FAST Friends, her treatment is fully sponsored. What Cameo needs now is a quiet, stable home where she can relax and live out her days in comfort and peace.

Cameo has been through so much in her life, but she hasn’t lost her loving spirit. If you can offer her the retirement home she deserves, please consider giving her the chance to live out her golden years surrounded by love. She’s ready for her happily ever after.
