The Galax Carroll Grayson Animal Shelter is a regional shelter operated jointly by the three local governments under the requirements of the Code of the Virginia. The shelter accepts animals as required under the Code and works to place animals back with their owners, adopt them to new owners, or place them with other non-profit animal welfare agencies that may be able to adopt them. Animals are t

ransferred on a first come first serve basis, so always check with Shelter staff prior to see if an animal is still available. If you are interested in becoming an animal welfare agency, please call 276-236-5773.Effective Aug. 30, 2016, SHELTER HOURS:(Open to the public) Tuesday – Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.& Friday & Saturday 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM INFORMATIONVirginia State law requires:* Anyone adopting a shelter animal must have it spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption.* Adoption fee: $100.00 for dogs. $85.00 for cats* You must live in Galax, Carroll, Grayson or an adjoining Virginia county to adopt an animal.Code of Virginia 3.2-6546.D.(2)(3)(4) states:2. Adoption by a resident of the county or city where the shelter is operated and who will pay the required license fee, if any, on such animal, provided that such resident has read and signed a statement specifying that he has never been convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment;3. Adoption by a resident of an adjacent political subdivision of the Commonwealth, if the resident has read and signed a statement specifying that he has never been convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment;4. Adoption by any other person, provided that such person has read and signed a statement specifying that he has never been convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment and provided that no dog or cat may be adopted by any person who is not a resident of the county or city where the shelter is operated, or of an adjacent political subdivision, unless the dog or cat is first sterilized, and the shelter may require that the sterilization be done at the expense of the person adopting the dog or cat.

A few of our dogs have been sponsored — come meet them today! 🐾
That means their adoption fees are already covered!
If they still need to be spayed or neutered, they’ll go home with a voucher for the appointment.

All have received their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, and they’ll get their rabies vaccine at the time of their appointment.

Stop by and meet these amazing dogs — they’re ready to find their forever homes! ❤️

We’re at the Lake Ridge RV Resort we have Reese with us today and expecting a few more dogs today will be here til 4pm. We also are at the Tractor Supply in Hillsville til 2pm. There are dogs at each event and adoption fee is wavied today.

🚨🐾 URGENT – WE ARE FULL! 🐾🚨

Our shelter is completely full of dogs, and we need your help! To get these pups into loving homes, all adoption fees are WAIVED this Friday and Saturday. ❤️

👉 Normally, our adoption fee covers:
✔️ Spay/Neuter appointment
✔️ Rabies vaccine
✔️ DHPP & Bordetella vaccines
✔️ Microchip

This Saturday, you’ll still receive all of that at NO COST—we just need to find safe, happy homes for these amazing dogs.

📅 Please note: The shelter will be CLOSED Saturday.
🐾 You can find us at our two adoption events instead:
✨ Tractor Supply (Hillsville location from 10-2pm)
✨ Lake Ridge RV Resort (8736 Double Cabin Rd Hillsville VA 24343 10-4pm)

Every adoption makes room for another dog in need. 🐶💙
