Purr-Fection Animal Rescue & Shelter, nfp

Purr-Fection Animal Rescue & Shelter, nfp Our goal is to help pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter, and community outreach. To promote Trap/Neuter/Release programs.

And to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. Our shelter is completely cageless, with cozy nooks secured to the walls so each animal can have an "up-top retreat", window seats for observing the grounds, an insulated door that allows them access to the "catio"...a mesh-walled area where the cats can climb the large tree limbs inside, sit in/on the ma

ny boxes, nibble the catnip growing along the perimeter, or just nap in a sunbeam while having a bit of fresh air. We use EdenPure heaters, which keep the shelter at a comfy 68 degrees, and are cool to the touch, and impossible to tip over (and quite economical, too!) In summer, just like us, they enjoy the AC. There are plush beds and blankets for snuggling, lots of toys, and a stereo for relaxing catmusic. These guys have it good while they wait for their forever homes...
We are located on private property, so visiting the shelter to find your new best buddy is by appointment only. We operate "THE BIG ONE" Thrift Store, located at 10840 US Hwy 20 in Galena. Full of treasures from clothing in all sizes for women, men, and children, to household necessities, furniture, small appliances, craft supplies, books, vintage items, artwork, electronics, hardware, tools, automotive things, sports equipment, pet supplies, greeting cards, and much, much more, all at rock-bottom prices. All the profits go to directly benefit our furry little residents. Our current hours are 11am - 5pm Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and the first Sunday of every month from 11a, til 5pm. We are always closed on Tuesdays and Wednesday. We will also either close early or not open at all if the weather is bad - excessive heat, or winter storms. If that happens, we will post to this page.

It's Giving Tuesday, and wow! Does Purr-Fection ever need your giving hearts! We have been taking in not just the animals that people have decided they no longer want, but also the ones who would surely have died had we not stepped in - injured, ill, or just too tiny to be on their own. Each animal we take in gets whatever they need to overcome the state in which they arrived, and to begin to thrive. We have the most wonderful network of foster families (although we can always use more *hint hint*), and fabulous veterinary professionals, and volunteers with unending energy, but what allows us to keep this crazy engine moving is money.
Please...take a moment to help us help them. You can make a donation (either in person, or via a card) to our account with Veterinary Associates 815.777.0880, donate via our Venmo shown in the info part of our page, or drop some cash into our donation boxes located at some of the generous merchants in town.

These three still haven’t had one application for them. The older cats get, the harder it is to find homes for them. Everyone wants the tiny kittens. But these three are still rambunctious but they can be left alone while you’re off at work.

❄️We got a call from a caring person that these two babies showed up on their porch. Amanda & Jimmy picked them up, took them to the vet for a workup, brought them home, bathed all the fleas off, blow dry, nails trimmed, and full bellies. After their spa day they’re off to their foster home.
These two girls are long hairs, very thin, but are FIV/FeLV/FHW negative, 4-5 weeks old, and have good appetites.
🐾Thank you to the staff at Veterinary Associates for taking on these two on a busy Monday.
💰To donate please call our vet directly 1-815-777-0880 during their open hours.
☎️If you’d like to adopt or meet any of our available cats/kittens please message our page or contact foster coordinator Amanda (1-815-821-1420), or pick up and application at our thrift store at the front counter.

🐭After a little over a week stay at the vet clinic, Mouse is heading to her foster home!
I was told she was a huge hit with all of the staff at the clinic. Her healing journey will be a slow and long process, but just that she is so peppy and positive with help her through it.
She will be in her pack and play to help keep her safe from injuring herself further. No rough housing just yet for this girl.
😇Thank you to everyone at Veterinary Associates for being so kind, caring, and thorough with her and all of our fosters.

☎️The best ways to help our rescue at this time is to donate directly to our vet bill. You can call the vet clinic at 1-815-777-0880 and make a donation to our account. Shop at our thrift store. Donate canned kitten food, dry kitten food (Purina or Iams), which can be dropped off at our thrift store.
And ADOPT! We have so many available cats and kittens that would love a home of their own for the holidays.

🐾Thank you🐾

This little nugget was found just in time.
A caring resident of an independent living center brought this boy in to the vet clinic. The staff at Veterinary Associates worked quickly to get him warm, as they couldn’t register a temp for him, and his glucose level was also dangerously low.
Once stabilized he went to Amanda’s to be put on a heating pad and fed small amounts every couple hours to safely raise his glucose level over a period of time. There he was greeted by the welcome wagon. The calico girls are curious about him but it’s the foster Joanna that really wanted to snuggle him. She has become the comfort kitten in the foster home. *She’s available for adoption.

This little buff orange boy is 4-5 weeks old and will need some time to recover but as soon as he is healthy and old enough he will be available for adoption. A huge thank you to vet associates for working quickly on all of our special needs cases we’ve been taking in!

🧀Meet Mouse. 🐭
Mouse was found in a parking lot dragging herself along the gravel. She has no motor function in her back legs, yet she is the spunkiest and sweetest girl. She has spinal trauma but we don’t know to what extent without an extensive MRI in Madison and we just don’t have the funds. BUT…
She now has feeling in her abdomen so she knows when it’s time to use her litter box. She plays with her toys, has a good appetite, and loves being loved.
⚕️The staff at Veterinary Associates have been wonderful in her care. She has a cozy bed, toys, Sherpa rug, and a churu licky mat. All in her pack and play a staff member brought in for her.

❤️‍🩹A wheelchair may be in her future but we would need to ask someone to design and make one or donate one for her.

Roy’s got an update!

Roy’s got an update!

Roy’s progress has been amazing! He no longer needs to be sedated for bandage changes. He’s using the litter box, and HE’S DOMESTIC! His foster mom and he connected immediately. I got to be in the exam room with them at his last check and let me tell ya, his face was buried into the can of wet food the entire time the vet was checking him over!
He loves the fancy feast gravy lovers poultry and beef if you’d like to donate some for his care. He also loves the treat puzzle game to keep him busy while in his kennel so temptations cat treats are another good one to donate! And as always, our vet bill has been up there since we are taking on special needs cases. You can donate over the phone directly to our vet at Vet Associates Galena 1-815-777-0880.
Thank you!

UPDATE: We have a long term foster for Roy!

⚕️Remember Roy? ⚕️

❤️‍🩹Roy is a special case that rescues avoid getting involved in. Most rescues wouldn’t touch this case but we have seen the rare cases work. Not all have happy endings, but we still need to try.
Roy is feral. He came in to rescue with a degloved arm. Living outside doesn’t provide the cleanest conditions and Roy’s arm got infected. The infection is all the way into the joint and bone. Grafting skin isn’t an option for him because there isn’t a place to take other skin from. His foster mom has been amazing at bringing him into the vet clinic every week for bandage changes. Because Roy is feral he needs to be sedated at the vet clinic for every bandage change.
We cannot stress enough at how long his healing time will be, and how expensive his recovery will be.

🕰️Roy needs a long term foster home. Realistically 6 months. Roy has a place to crash after healing that will provide a safe place for him as a feral. But we need a place for him to be so the current foster home has the room to rescue others. As long as we can find someone to commit to his care, he has a chance.

❤️‍🩹Foster home requirements:
💥Long term foster. We need someone that isn’t going to back out after a month. This is going to take months.
💥Has to be available to drop off and pick up at the vet clinic weekly to every other week.
💥Be confident in keeping him in a kennel and getting him into a carrier. Or take the entire kennel to the vet.
💥Be confident at changing his bedding daily because Roy doesn’t consistently use his litter box. He’s very scared and is a feral. He’s confused at what a litter box is.

😽Our rescue provides supplies of care; litter, kennel, bedding, food, bowls, etc. ☎️If you think you would make a good foster home for Roy, please message our page or contact our foster Amanda (1-815-821-1420).

💰Because he requires extensive medical care our vet bills have gone up. We welcome any and all donations. ☎️Veterinary Associates takes card donations over the phone. 1-815-777-0880.

🎯We do not support declawing of any kind. 🎯Rescues do no support declawing of any kind.
Medical and behavioral studies have shown that it leads to behavioral issues, cats refusal to use the litter box (imagine digging in gravel after you’ve had all of your first digits removed), and causes arthritis.
🎯There are alternative options:
-trim your cat’s nails, many vet clinics offer that service in the amount of time it takes you to go get a cup of coffee. And bring one back for the vet tech 😉.
-nail caps are affordable and easily accessible. Your vet clinic can put them on for you.

This bill would prohibit cat declawing in Illinois, with an exemption for the rare cases when the surgery is performed for a legitimate therapeutic purpose.

We’ve had a busy past week!
Got some newbies into foster care over the weekend. Buff and white twin girls and the sweetest tabby girl. They got the Amanda treatment: into the shower they went for a flea and tick wash, and topical revolution. Then to the vet this week for age appropriate vaccines and a snap test for FIV/FeLV/FHW.

Unfortunately we are overwhelmed with cats and kittens but thanks to foster volunteers we were able to help. They were outside in the middle of nowhere and would have been food for predators.
We also took in a kitten with both back legs paralyzed and she has been staying at the vet clinic. Nothing is broken but she definitely sustained spinal trauma. She’s not out of the woods but we are giving her every chance possible.
⚕️Please spay and neuter your pets.

💰Our vet bill was $1300.00 last week because we are taking in cases that other rescues can’t, to no fault of their own, everyone is full. We appreciate every donation.

☎️The easiest way to donate at this time is to call Veterinary Associates Galena 1-815-777-0880, and you can make a direct donation via card over the phone to our account. We rely on community support in order to help the community. 💝

The first step.
When coming into foster care some cats and kittens are pretty dirty/sticky/smelly and need a bath. It helps them shed their past experiences in a way, to clean off the smells of past trauma from fighting to survive. A new beginning.

🧡This is Marv. The fiv kitten we’ve been trying to find a foster for. While we are packed full with cats and kittens we couldn’t count him out. He’s young, maybe 12 weeks old, it’s hard to say because he’s malnourished.

Marv has a chance.

A kind person saw that he needed help and she decided to put her “money where her mouth is” (pssst, but we pay for everything 😉) and is fostering him for a few months so he can be retested for Fiv. There’s a slight chance he is carrying antibodies from his mother that could have been positive.
Because of someone stepping up a life is saved.
He gets a warm shower with foster Amanda, and is cozied up in one of the heated throw blankets. Those come in handy so often and we could use more if you have one laying around that you’d like to donate!
❤️‍🩹He will then begin his journey to his new foster home until we can retest him. He is the sweetest boy. He makes biscuits on everything and nudges his head under your chin.
💰Our vet bills are increasing as we take on more special cases. If you are able, please make a donation to any of our donation boxes around town, or to our account at First Community Bank in Galena, or directly to our vet bill at Veterinary Associates Galena 1-815-777-0880.

Janet, Jack, and Sylvester have been waiting for their forever home since they were teeny tinies. They’ve been passed up while watching their fellow foster litter get adopted.
These three are the sweetest. They’re socialized with dogs, cats, and all the sounds of an active house. They are 6 months old, spay/neutered, up to date on vaccines, litter box trained, love their toys, and are ready for their forever homes!

🎄🎁
He was found emaciated and freezing under a bush in the foster’s yard. The person did the best possible thing they could do to help him…she chose to foster him.

Lucky is 4-5 years old and will be up to date on his vaccines, neutered, and available for adoption once he’s done with his upper respiratory infection.
He gets along well with dogs and other cats in his foster home. He uses his litter box well and doesn’t spray.

🪨Meet Coal.🐺
This boy was found laying in a bush in someone’s yard in Cuba City last night (Halloween), trying to stay warm. Some very nice people contacted us and got him to our vet today.
⚕️He’s pretty thin and has a bad upper respiratory infection. He’s estimated at 4-5 years old, is domestic (he was purring in the video they sent me), fiv/felv negative.
He needs to be given his antibiotics and we need to load this boy up on groceries. He will grow into a very handsome cat.
We need foster or foster to adopt placement for him. If you’re interested in fostering him, please contact our page, or call foster Amanda (1-815-821-1420).
