Brrr... the cold weather is here! ❄️ As temperatures drop, it's essential to take steps to keep your furry friends safe and cozy. Here’s some tips to help your pets enjoy a warm and happy winter season:

🕒 Limit Time Outdoors: Shorten outdoor activities like walks and potty breaks, especially for pets with less cold tolerance.

🏠 Provide Warm Shelter: Outdoor pets need insulated, dry shelters with proper bedding to stay warm.

👕 Cold Weather Clothing: Sweaters or jackets can help pets with thin coats, but remember to remove them indoors to avoid overheating.

🐾 Protect Their Paws: Use pet boots or paw balm to shield paws from ice, snow, and salt. Keep the fur between their pads trimmed to prevent buildup.

🎾 Keep Them Active Indoors: Play games, use puzzle feeders, or try training exercises to keep their minds busy.

🥶 Watch for Hypothermia: Shivering, lethargy, or unusual behavior could indicate cold stress—seek veterinary attention if needed.

🍲 Maintain a Healthy Diet: Some pets may need more calories in winter. Always provide fresh, unfrozen water.

Did you know every February, the veterinary community celebrates National Pet Dental Health Month by encouraging pet owners to take care of their pets’ teeth? Without proper dental hygiene routines, pets develop periodontal disease, which is the most common disorder affecting our pets nationwide. By age three, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats have some evidence of periodontal disease.

At advanced stages, dental disease can significantly impact a pet’s quality of life. It can cause mouth pain, which makes eating difficult. Plus, bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and cause heart, liver and kidney complications. Pets are good at hiding pain, so it’s important for pet owners to take steps to prevent periodontal disease from striking in the first place.

Luckily, we are offering 15% off dental cleanings for the whole month of February! This discount also includes all dental products we carry in our office. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you’d like to book your appointment, please give us a call at 309-343-6156.

❄ Remember cats try and seek warmth under cars, tap the hood of your car before starting your engine
❄ Try and wipe your pet's paws after going for walks as ice melt is toxic to pets.
❄ Keep antifreeze away from your pets - its poisonous!
❄ Make sure your pet has a warm place to sleep!
❄ Remember to keep potty breaks short & use a coat for your pet if needed!
