In observance of our National Birthday, The Puppy Playground will be closed for daycare on July 4th and 5th. We will be plenty busy taking care of our full kennel of doggos this weekend. Have a safe and happy Fourth of July everyone!

Friends, today is going to be extremely hot. If you are planning on bringing your dogs for daycare today, please try your best to pick them up before 2:00 PM as that is when the heat will be the most extreme. By that time, all of my boarding dogs will be inside the A/C for the rest of the day with periodical bathroom breaks for 5 minutes here and there.

We won’t expose the dogs to that type of heat and my employee’s health is of the utmost importance to me as well.

Please plan accordingly. If you decide to cancel for today, we can move your reservation from today to later this week when the heat will calm down a bit.

Please keep your pups inside today as much as possible and monitor their water intake closely.

We got the fans blowing and the dogs in Chill Out Bandanas. The boarding dogs are taking a break in the A/C for now during this heat wave today. Dog health and safety is our #1 priority!

I don’t say it enough, but I can’t do any of this without my amazing staff. These ladies show your dogs love, keep them safe, and are so in tune with them that they can spot all the small things (ear infections, urinary tract infections, etc)that they can stop from turning into big things. Alex, Ray, Amy, Jocelyn, and Jess were on duty today and gave me the time I need to run my kids around and fix things around the playground. You’re the best ladies!

If you are in need of a updated Rabies Vaccination for your dog (Which is required by law), then please make arrangements to visit Richland Animal Rescue that will be putting on this clinic at Pampered Paws Doggie Daycare, which is another wonderful dog daycare in the Kalamazoo County Area.

Friends, in observance of Memorial Day, The Puppy Playground will be closed on Saturday and Monday for Daycare. I will still be here with my staff serving our Boarding Dogs and making sure they are taken care of as usual, but I want to give as many of my Staff Members a day off as possible. They work very hard here wrangling and playing with your dogs and keeping them happy and healthy each day.

Also, as a Marine Corps Veteran myself, this weekend is not just a fun day off. Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect on the men and women we served with that were fallen in battle. I also remember the good friends that lost the battle within their own minds after returning from having to do things that are not in our nature as humans to do, but we were called upon to do them anyway. I have been present at too many funerals for those lost in combat and those lost to su***de, and it has always been my life's mission to help save as many vets as I can that struggle from the unseen wounds of war.

One of the biggest reasons I built The Puppy Playground was because I wanted a sanctuary where I could serve again in a way that would also help to heal my mind. Dogs have a healing power that they don't even know they possess, but every day they wake up and spread that love to us unworthy humans because it's all they know to do. It is their nature to be kind and loving and that is why we all gravitate to them.

Lastly, if you see a combat veteran this weekend, the easy thing to say is "Thank you for your service", but instead, ask them how they are doing, and let them know you truly care about their sacrifice for this country we all call home. Let them know they aren't fighting a battle alone in their minds and that if they need help, you are there for them to reach out to. You would be surprised to see the reactions you would get from that.

The attached picture is a VERY YOUNG First Lieutenant Schultz (All the way on the left) on my first Deployment in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Some of these men lost their lives in battle, and some when they returned home. All of them are my brothers, and will be for life.

Happiest Birthday Wishes to our biggest Puppy in the Playground Harley. Harley started with us last year as a 50 lb puppy at 4 months and is now over 150 lbs. He is the most lovable and sweet dog and we love him so much. Happy Birthday Buddy!

Dobermans are notorious for being lap dogs. Especially the scaredy cat 🙀 ones. This is LuLu and she never leaves my side when she’s here. Seems like I got a lot of them that do that 😂
