Our Story
Our Philosophy
We recognize that this is a difficult time for you, your pet and your family. Peaceful Journey provides compassionate individualized care to help minimize pain and suffering. Our goal is to make your pet's final journey as peaceful as it can be.
Dr. O’Rourke is the first Montana veterinarian to complete a year-long course of study to become a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarian (CHPV). She is pleased to share this specialty knowledge with her clients, and is open to discussing and incorporating many types of therapies to assist with your pet’s quality of life and pain management.
In-Home Hospice Care
Hospice is supportive care for pets faced with a terminal illness. This specialized care begins the moment your pet has been diagnosed with a life limiting condition. We can help provide in-home services that include palliative care, pain recognition and management, fluid therapy, wound care, nutrition management, and other medical support not requiring hospitalization. We strive to provide a personalized care plan that is right for your pet.
In-home hospice gives families time to adjust to their pet's progressive disease and say good-bye in their own way. With the assistance of Peaceful Journey staff, this can be experienced with dignity in the comfort of home.
In-Home Euthanasia
In-home euthanasia allows families to say goodbye to their beloved pet in a peaceful familiar setting. We are here to help during this difficult time. Our euthanasia services include:
+ Consultation on your pet's condition and the process so you know what to expect.
+ The opportunity for you and your family to be with your pet in their favorite spot throughout the process.
+ Sedation for painless passing.
+ Assistance with after care and commemoration.
+ A follow-up consultation and resources on grief and pet-loss support, as needed.
Peaceful Journey staff will work together with you, to help you decide when the time is right.
Peaceful Journey Will Happily Partner With Your Veterinarian....
We will work in partnership with your pet's primary veterinarian to ensure continuity of medical care. This helps formulate a well-informed palliative care plan tailored to your pet's unique history and medical situation. We keep your veterinarian apprised of the treatment plan and your pet's status throughout the process.
About Peaceful Journey
Dr. Chris O'Rourke graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent 3 years in private practice before pursuing a residency in the field of laboratory animal medicine. Within this field, Dr. O'Rourke gained knowledge and experience working with a wide variety of species. A key aspect of her training has focused on the ability to recognize and alleviate signs of pain and distress in animals. Through 26 years of veterinary experience, Dr. O'Rourke has become a passionate advocate for peaceful and painless end-of-life transitions. The idea of helping other pet owners began to emerge as she provided care for her cherished Sydney, a shelter dog who was part of her life for 16 wonderful years. She is a member of the International Association for Animal Hospice & Palliative Care (IAAHPC), the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Montana Veterinary Medical Association.
