Enteroliths, or intestinal stones, form when a horse ingests an indigestible object that becomes trapped in the digestive system. Minerals like struvite, calcium, and potassium gradually build up around the foreign object, creating a solid mass that can lead to concerns. ⚠️ Ensuring a balanced diet and monitoring your horse’s eating habits can help reduce the risk of enterolith formation. 🍏🥕

While it’s not always possible to prevent enteroliths, certain practices can significantly reduce the risk. Limit alfalfa to no more than 50% of your horse’s diet, and provide regular exercise to promote gut function. 🏃‍♂️ Make sure your horse drinks enough water, and feed salt to promote water intake. 💧🧂 Keep hay off the ground to prevent ingestion of foreign objects like gravel or sand. 🌾🚫 For horses in areas where enteroliths are common, it’s crucial to implement these management strategies.

Sometimes, life just lines up so perfectly. 💕This summer Schleese Saddlery Service and Saddlefit 4 Life ® contacted our Equine Manager through her personal instagram about joining them for an informational instagram live on saddle fitting. By the end of the LIVE they had talked all things saddle fit AND all things rescue!
Jochen, the founder, was so moved by our story and our mission he vowed to help us.
They ran a multi-week promotion for one of their premiere classes that had hundreds of dollars benefiting us every time someone signed up.
They ended up donating $1,800 CAD AND free access to one of their courses for our equine manager to teach her how to correctly saddle fit (you know- teach a man to fish mentality)!
Not only do they strongly align with our values, their company has been an integral part in our equines care this year as our vet bills have continued to stack up.
Thank you Schleese and Saddle Fit 4 Life. We are SO grateful!

Sable experienced a significant health scare but has now fully recovered. A calcium deficiency led to digestive issues, prompting symptoms of colic the following day. A subsequent veterinary visit and administration of banamine were necessary to alleviate her condition. Sable is back to being a fiesty protective mama! Visit www.veatn.org foor ways to donate
