Theo! 🥰
This gentle young guy is working hard, learning to trust humans, and working through his fears and stress! One of Theo’s goals is recall. But recall, as simple as it sounds (coming to your name being called), is not so simple when the world is full of scary things.
Using the wobble board has nothing to do with Theo’s balance — it’s about building confidence and teaching him how to handle fear in a healthy way.
Using the leash helps keep Theo moving forward, showing him he can face challenges without avoiding, shutting down, and resisting.
This sweet boy would rather avoid situations he's unsure of, quickly shut down, and fully resist, so knowing how much he can handle is crucial. Overdoing turns into negative territory, which will only encourage Theo to resist, something we’re working hard to change.
These steps are crucial in Theo's training to foster trust and resilience, and they are essential for any future skills training, such as loose leash walking and recall commands. More importantly, Theo is learning alternative choices in response to life's challenges. Learning how to handle the difficult situations that life may present will lead to a happier and more fulfilling life.
So, to help Theo recover, his sessions end with some fun engagement and play. It may not look like training, but recall work’s really happening here. But shhh… Theo doesn’t know that! 😄
Who loves Mondays at Country Road Canines? Bella, that’s who!

“You’re going 100 miles over the speed limit, Ruger, slow down!!!” Says Scrappy, the fun police 😂
It looks like clear sky’s tomorrow! Scrappy looks forward to hosting Doggy Daycare Fri-Yay! 🐾
This handsome little guy is Thor!
Thor is with us for a short stay to work on cooperation and being a better listener.
You can’t tell from the video, but we learned quickly that Thor LOVES to play the “chase me” game. Thor has learned that 4 legs, as short as his might be, can outrun a human with only 2 🙂
And so here we are teaching Thor the idea that when HE chooses to come and engage with us, he gets rewarded for it, without being pressured or forced to do it.
This way Thor is making the connection that cooperation can be quite fun, and that he doesn’t have a reason to run away as we work toward diminishing his “chase me” game shenanigans 😊🐾
While we love when Willie (yellow lab) comes for doggy daycare, yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting his newly adopted brother, Kirbie (black lab).
Needless to say, these boys had a blast meeting new and reuniting with old friends during playgroup 🐾 😊
