Meet the African Spoonbill! 🌟 This long-legged white bird can be found throughout much of Africa and Madagascar. Its distinctive flat, spatula-like bill is perfect for sifting through water in search of small fish and aquatic invertebrates. You'll often see them sweeping their head back and forth to catch their next meal.

Around Galveston Island and Moody Gardens, keep an eye out for the related Roseate Spoonbill, with its stunning pink feathers! 🌸

You can find the African Spoonbill hanging out near the water’s edge in the Rainforest Pyramid, often alongside the vibrant Scarlet Ibis.

Sign up your scouts, ages 11-17, for the Disability Awareness Merit Badge class on February 9, 2025! 🏅✨

Through hands-on activities and a pyramid tour, scouts will step into others’ shoes to better understand accessibility and inclusion. This workshop is a unique opportunity to complete merit badge requirements while fostering empathy and awareness. 🙌
