Our herd tested clean for CAE/CL/Johne's since November 2014 & has been tested annually since with clean results. Kidding season runs March-April and kids are sold to pre-approved homes. Through our apiary we produce raw honey & beeswax which we use in our lotion bars & lip balms. For farm product availability check out our website mountainmommafarms.com or you can PM the page. For both liability and biosecurity reasons we do NOT offer farm tours. However if picking up a goat we are happy to show you around and answer any questions. Also for biosecurity reasons we do not lease out our bucks or provide disbudding services. Be sure to follow for updates!!! :) :) :)

With our busy schedule the farm has been on autopilot for a bit and I haven’t given any updates.

We’ve wittled down our goat numbers and are waiting for junior does to grow out, so this year we will only have 2 does kidding. Granted they’re both spectacular pairings 😍 quality over quantity. 😉 Pairings/pedigree/dam & sires dam udder pics below. 👇🏻

Also we are impatiently waiting Peaches first calf with Peter Piper. 🙏🏻🤞🏻 for 🎀💗 She is due in April and I can barely wait! Her pre-fresh udder is perfect. 🥹🥰❤️ Her calf will be A2A2 & homopolled..hopefully paint as well.

Otherwise we are just trying to soak up this season of rest. ☺️ Soon enough it’ll be time to do all things farm again, with no respite in sight.

Luffa Gourds were one of my favorite things to grow this year! They’re edible if harvested early on and if left to mature make excellent biodegradable little scrubbers for dishes or exfoliating. Their juice is all the rage in Korea for skincare, all together an amazing little plant! Here in zone 6b we had to start them VERY early (mid to late January). This was our first year growing them and once planted we pretty much ignored them other than some trellis training. From the 4 plants we harvested a little over 90 luffa gourds! 😳

All that being said we will be opening the store November 1st for Christmas orders and will have luffa seeds (as well as some other favorites from this year), soap, lotion, lip balm, lotion bars, and honey available. ☺️

Even with the drought our apple trees are loaded down this year! 🍎 This is what non sprayed apples look like. 👇🏻 We don’t spray for a couple reasons, the main one being our honeybees. Other than appearance there’s no real change in them in spraying vs not. They’re not store apple pretty but they taste amazing! Buttercup was AI’d 5/22. There’s a theory out there that says cows can show positive for pregnancy as early as 10 days post breeding using witching sticks/dowsing rods. We will confirm pregnancy 30 days post breeding via blood draw but for now the witching sticks read positive! 🤞🏻 and y’all think 💗! 🤞🏻👏🏻🐮🐄🥛🧀

Northern Lights 🌌😍

Working in the garden Tuesday and amongst the thunder of the incoming storm I suddenly heard a lot of loud buzzing. I followed the noise to find a large swarm hovering above the house. They slowly filtered to the tree line and settled down just as the first rain drops started falling. Unfortunately, they were too high for us to catch and didn’t take to any of our swarm traps. They quickly moved on after the storm passed. Swarms are a honeybees natural way to reproduce &/or protect themselves from pests. Swarms while a little alarming are relatively safe as the bees are just trying to protect their Queen and find a new home which can take up to 12-24hrs. You can observe and enjoy them from a distance or call a beekeeper to catch them if you should so wish. *I’ll add a couple pictures in the comments as fb will not allow me to upload videos and pictures at the same time. 🙃

Goat ASMR thanks to the rain storm and metal barn.🌧 Babies are much faster, more coordinated, and jump higher now a days. Convincing them play time is over is a challenge most days. 😅🐐❤️
