Luca is almost ready to go home to his family after spending a few weeks with us in board and train.
Here, he shows he can come when called off-leash and trainer Lynn rewards him handsomely with some yummy treats.
Trainer Talk #1: Teaching a Reliable Recall
Head trainer Brad teaches the recall command to one of our #puppiesintraining, 11 week-old #vizsla, Ella. ⭐️
This is possibly the most important thing you will teach your new #puppy.
Some tips to consider are:
⭐️ Practice inside in a distraction-free environment
⭐️ Bring plenty of #dogtreats that are high value(something they ONLY get during recall)
⭐️ Use the treat as a magnet to lure the puppy into a sit when she comes to you
⭐️ As soon as the dog takes a step toward you after you say, "Come", offer praise to the puppy so they know they are doing well.
⭐️ Only call your dog when you have something delicious for him or her
Practice everyday for 5 minutes and you will have a dog who always comes when called!

This video shows our Head Trainer, Lynn, working with Blue. She demonstrates several key ingredients to a balanced training approach. She uses a calm tone of voice in order to condition Blue to respond to voice commands at a normal tone. Raising your voice or barking orders at your dog is not necessary to elicit reliable response to commands. And only causes undue stress to the dog. She also uses repetition. Dogs learn just like humans, consistent repetitions are necessary to create strong habits. And finally a combination of leash pressure as correction and praise/ petting as a reward clearly mark undesired and desired response to commands. 👏🏽
