Meet Remi! This sweet girl is with me to learn leash skills and how to be neutral around other dogs. We are making progress slowly but surely, so make sure to stay tuned to see this girl at her best! This fluffy friend is the prime example of reactive and aggressive being completely different tendencies! She plays at the dog park, and at daycare, but still does not like making friends on leash. Not for long! We are putting some lifestyle changes and expectations in place that will definitely help her family get her back to being calm on lead. Remi, we believe in you friend! Keep working hard.

Sydney the Shar Pei!! Could those wrinkles be any cuter? I think not. And she’s just a baby at 4 months old!! Although we are still working on not doing her excited puppy jumpies we are seeing tons of improvement on her leash skills and obedience. Working to nip some early reactivity before she’s big and it progresses but super confident in this ladies future. Go sydney!!

Mr. Ollie had a refresher lesson today and we had a blast!! We saw major leash skill improvement from both him and his parents, and as always he was drivey as can be but we worked on channeling some of that energy into more productive activities like down and place. So happy to see this sweet guy and love to see his improvement.

Meet my Pack!!

Rye, Ranger, and Brucey. Or as I like to call them, the Tiny Terrors. Ranger came to me about 4 years ago via a Facebook Marketplace rescue situation. Brucey came next, about 2 years later after being surrendered to the animal shelter I worked at, and last but not least about a year ago we got the tiny tornado, Rye. That was an on purpose accident. (I wanted her and begged my boyfriend until he caved, lol). These three are the light of my life and the reason I get out of bed in the morning. I learn important qualities from all of them, everyday. Ranger is my loyal soldier and would march into battle for me if I asked him to. He’s agreeable and kind and very opinionated. Rye has more drive than most people I know, and would work for me until she collapsed if the need ever arose. I point and she does, and she’s also extremely intuitive and forward (that girl ain’t afraid of nothin). Brucey is absolutely the most hardheaded being i’ve ever met but he’s also routine oriented, sensitive, and strong willed.

These guys make doing what I do a hobby as much as a career, which keeps me engaged and loving what I do, and it also keeps me up to date with real life problems you may face at home with your own pack. I love being a dog owner, (I haven’t always) and I’d love to help you love it too with the help of some basic training and relationship foundation work. I could not manage a pack of three without really solid expectations and communication and I can help you achieve the same healthy relationship with your dogs, too. Contact me today to find out how!

Miss Winter working on her obedience!! This will lead up to some e-collar training that we will use to break her habit of running the fence and not listening to mom. She is the gentlest sweetest girl and I just know she’s going to do to great. Everyone give a warm welcome to the newest member of the pack!

Got to go and visit a dear old friend of mine… Miss Pauline! I met Pauline 4 years ago at my first ever kennel job and back then this girl was a handful. Known for her “CPR hands” as we call them, she will excessively bang on and jump on things she wants to get to - toys, the fence, so forth. She’s also recently started being not so nice to her canine siblings when passing other dogs while walking, but after a quick obedience briefing (another great trainer im aqauinted with had already done extensive work with her, she just needed a freshen up) she is rocking and rolling and ready to work! I was able to guide them in the commands she already knows and now she will be working on leash skills boot camp until she’s ready to walk with her siblings again. So greatful to see this girl balanced and living in a loving home, she has come so far since I last saw her and it’s truly like seeing an old friend. Miss Pauline, I am thrilled to work with you and so excited to see how far we can come together!

SUCH a fun filled weekend with some amazing pups! Pictured below are Rulo and Quincy on their outings in the beautiful weather we had!! Rulo had her first trip to Scheels and was absolutely perfection. She sat for small children, didn’t pull on the leash, did the elevator and faced the ferris wheel with bravery, and met the strange bronze man out front. Quincy walked past several triggering dogs with ZERO reaction to all but one, and ignored kids and bikes and trucks and all the other things that once made this boy very nervous. Absolutely love watching all this progress unfold!!

Baby Rulo, working on place! Admittedly this was a while ago but I love looking back on the clients that grow up with me… Miss girl is now DOUBLE this size and has lots of fun tricks under her belt! She also maybe one of the sweetest puppies i’ve ever met. So amazing watching these pups grow up!

Mr. Ludo!! This guy came from a rescue that’s super near and dear to my heart, and is working on not pulling on the leash when his owner walks him past other dogs. To start though, we had to teach him how to learn. This guy had zero interest in food motivators, would not follow a lure and almost seemed confused in public. Friendly, but confused. This guy has since become extremely confident and ready to learn, and we hope to focus on finishing his leash skills in his next sessions. Stay tuned to see this handsome guys progress! ( At the end you can see his very funny quirk which is that he shakes hands after every interaction… like a true gentleman🤣)

Star student of the week - Ollie!! This beautiful and extremely intelligent Border Collie / Heeler Mix came to Idle Instinct to get some basic obedience under his belt. He is now at Level 3 obedience, performing long duration tasks off leash and is starting trick training! This handsome guy can sit, lay down, stay, place, leave it, spin, give his paw, and walk with nice leash manners. We are finishing our off leash heel and working on normal but undesirable puppy traits such as jumping, barking, and counter surfing. Give this guy a hand as he has completed all this in about 4 sessions and will be moving into public obedience soon but I have no doubt he will rock it!!

Cam may or may not believe in magic, but he definitely believes in the power of consistent leadership and the occasional positive behavioral marker (hence the treat he spit out trying to get more treats… lol). Finally back after my long and much needed break, DM me or text me to schedule sessions today!
