ASK ABOUT OUR REBATES: save money and protect your pets for less!

Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention are just as important in winter as they are in warmer months.
Hereโ€™s why:

1. Fleas and Ticks: While itโ€™s colder outside, fleas and ticks can still survive, especially in warmer environments, like inside your home. Fleas can survive on any warm blooded animal and ticks are known for hiding under leaves or snow, where they can latch on to your dog or cat when they are outside.
2. Heartworm: Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes, and while mosquitoes are less active in winter, they can still be present. Heartworm prevention is recommended year-round.
3. Consistency: Preventative treatments work best when given consistently. If you skip winter months, you risk leaving your pet unprotected.

So, even when the temperatures drop, continuing flea, tick, and heartworm prevention ensures your dog or cat stays safe and healthy year-round!

For more information on types of preventatives and how to get them, please call our clinic at 216-662-1770, or visit our online pharmacy (linked in bio)

Our Story

At our veterinary hospital, your pets are our family! The Family Pet Clinic was originally named Bartels Pet Clinic by its founder, Dr. Harry Bartels, in 1992. A year later, Dr. Terri Slezak joined the practice. In 2000, Dr. Bartels retired and sold the practice to Dr. Richard Thompson. Not long after, the clinic held a contest among its clients to choose a new name- and "The Family Pet Clinic" was born! In 2015, Dr. Eric Allie joined the practice and our team became complete. The Family Pet Clinic is a full service facility, offering wellness care, specialized plans for puppies and kittens, senior pet care, a wide variety of surgery, pet dentistry, internal medicine, digital radiography, dermatology, behavior counseling, specialized toxicology treatment, a full pharmacy, medical grooming, microchip placement, and daytime emergency medicine. The clinic has an extensive state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory that was upgraded in 2013. We are proud to offer medical care for the police canines of Garfield Heights and many surrounding law enforcement agencies, with over fifty dogs from 19 departments served by our doctors and staff. Since January 2000, the number of pets cared for by The Family Pet clinic has quadrupled. The pet owners of the Garfield Heights area deserve the highest quality care for their furry friends, and we are proud to serve them. In addition to treating dogs and cats, The Family Pet Clinic also provides medical care for exotic pets, including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, hedgehogs, and non-venemous reptiles.
