"What are microgreens?"
Baby plants, the majority of which only have the first set of leaves that emerge from the newly sprouted seed called the Cotyleden (caw-deh-lee-done) leaves. Most of the varieties we grow only spend 3-5 days under light before we cut them from their roots which go to the compost pile along with with coco coir (coconut husk fiber) that we grow in.
"How do you eat them?"
Anyway you can! Or With Everything! Are my immediate answer but put aside how incredibly TASTY Microgreens are (as one customer put it, "absolutely delicious from their delightful textures to amazing bright flavors!), our favorite thing about growing Microgreens and the reason we are so very passionate about them is that eating just a lil bit of micros everyday is an easy shift to make that will noticeably impact your health and well being because they are a super dense source of biavailable nutrients.
Microgreens are Tiny Yet Mighty! By eating a small amount of micros troughout your day, everyday CONSISTENTLY your body will actually be getting the amount of vitamins and minerals it desperately needs. When it comes to Nutritients, the majority of us have no trouble getting enough of:
Water
Fiber
Carbs/Sugar
Protein &
Fat
These first 5 are important for energy production, muscle growing/building, and to move stuff around our bodies.
However the majority of present day humanity does not get even the minimum requirement of all the macro and micro Minerals & Vitamins they need. These final nutrients are arguably the most important since they do the reparing and protecting of our delicate bodies.
Feel the change for less $$ daily than a soda or coffee and see for yourself! Just commit to eating and then actually Eat at least One Ounce of Microgreens Everyday for One month and it will be clear that your body is very happy with your decision!

After a stunning week on Oahu with the loves of our lives (Just Maria and I, No kids.. for the longest trip we've gotten to take together in 18 years of marriage 🥰😍) and a quick check in at home (where we loved on our happy healthy kids & petz AND found the farm in terrific condition All thanks to our talented new apprentice/my sister .Sara the smart beautiful gift to us all that happens to be better than even me at planting Sunflowers Shoots!) we are back at the airport on our way to Vegas Baby to catch Reggae Rise Up a 2 day outdoor show that we will dance our asses off at and come back refreshed and ready to feed all our favorite people Z freshest and bestest that can be found on Z North Oregon Coast/PDX Metro All Winter through the spring!!

**Farm Update 👩🌾👨🌾**
Growing this business has had its ups and downs, fortunately many more ups than downs thanks to so many amazing customers that feed our souls by allowing us to nourish 🌱 their bodies.🙏
It's been just about 121 weeks since we harvested our first commercial crop and created our first Invoice for 😁 We've made mistakes and learned lessons along the way that resulted in a few small losses but overall have been off to a great start.
Last week I chose to leave town last minute for 2 days and take my now 14 y/o manchild son (my usual trained farmhand) with me to go pack up and move my sister and her mom from Spokane to the Coast (Can't even express the Joy their precense here brings our family ❤ 💚) leaving behind an under-trained, ill-prepared and overwhelmed helper with lil more than a hope and a prayer.. unfortunately sometimes sh*t happens and we lost the majority of what was due to be a record crop.
We were able to salvage just enough to meet our restaurant and prepaid orders but had to cancel our markert appearances and push out CSA orders.
If success happens at the intersection of hard work 💪and preparation we earned this failure not for lack of effort but because life will happily teach you when you fail to plan you plan to fail 🙃🙂🙃
Fortunately for us a major crop loss is just 1 bad week followed by a lil extra work to clean up and get back to growing..and frankly 1 bad week out of 121 is a record we are extremely proud of and feel incredibly blessed for all the success.
Which leads us to this weekends Market appearances and CSA Deliveries:
Friday- We will NOT be at again tonight, we Will return on the 16th.
Saturday- we WILL BE from 9AM-2PM along with Audrey's Beadifully Beaded By Kidz selling her jewelry and beaded crafts.
Sunday-
We WILL BE from 10Am-2Pm
AND FROM THERE.. We will be doing a run through of our Coastal CSA delivery route from PC to Seaside to get a feel for where we're at so far. We will be reaching out to all our past CSA customers to confirm and invite anybody that's interested to join!

We have grown and will continue to grow a variety of micro-plants from the flower, herb, fruit and vegetable families and have found a handful that not only keep well, are always delicious and super nutritious but most importantly are easily added to the diets of our family, friends and all the people we love in our community!

Best eaten as a raw snack or on literally anything from salads, smoothies and wraps to being easily snuck into your day as a hot dog, sandwich or taco topping.

Best eaten all the time for a lil bit of fiber and greens that are packed with vitamin C, E and A, potassium and phosphorus. Try them chopped up in salads or wraps and even as an alternative to basil in pesto but definitely also try sautéing them quickly with some garlic drowned in butter and served with your favorite fish and ancient grain for a happy belly meal!

Great Aunt Jeneal will go down in history as one of the Greatest EVER, she was Fierce Funny as hell and Full to the brim with Love which you could feel in full effect with a glance of her beautiful smile! In October it will be 4 years since she left her mortal shackles to watch over everyone she loved and I miss her dearly but she has been right here guarding the thermostat in Z Farm watching us grow, cheering us on and reminding me to have fun doing it from day one 💚😊

Much needed late night energy snack!
Not sure when we signed on for Friday night and Saturday morning that we thought it all the way through given were stickers for delivering freshly harvested greens... nutrient dense snacks like this make getting through late night harvest and early morning packaging turn around between markets much easier!
