December 7, 1941, is a day that will live in infamy. Today marks the 83rd anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Although the attack occurred over eight decades ago, its ramifications still resonate profoundly with the American public.
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a surprise attack on Naval Station Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, without a declaration of war or any prior warning. The attack resulted in the deaths of 2,403 American servicemen and injured 1,178 others. It sank four United States Navy battleships and damaged four additional battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers, and one minelayer. In total, 188 aircraft were destroyed and 159 were damaged.
This unexpected assault shocked the American people and directly led to the United States entering World War II, both in the European and Pacific theaters.
We invite you to join us today and tomorrow as we "Remember Pearl Harbor" with hands-on history activities and live history displays.
