Microfilaria are "baby" Heartworms that live in the bloodstream (🫣Look closely to spot the microfilaria moving on this blood slide) When a mosquito bites an infected animal they pick up the baby Heartworms which then mature in the body of any animal bitten by that mosquito in the future. Taking only 6 months to mature into adults, Heartworms can live inside the infected dog or cat for 2-7 years! If untreated dogs can have 𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐒 of worms in their body over time. We recommend yearly testing to detect heartworms as early as possible! ⏰ So 𝐇𝐎𝐖 is Heartworm Disease preventable??
