Homestead Kennels

Homestead Kennels Purebred English Springer Spaniels We have had springers for over 45 years; primarily using them for hunting upland game, water fowl and as family pets.
(5)

We have always found springers to be cheerful and affectionate, good with all family members and ever alert to intruders. Our springers have excelled in hunting; obedience; showmanship and agility training, proving themselves to be versatile dogs, good athletes, quick to learn and willing to obey. We have stressed an easy-going temperament in our breeding program, along with conformation, certification of hips, birdieness and a willingness to ‘play’!

We still have 3 pups available! In order of headshots: F2(Dot), F5 (Sissy), M1(Reggie). I've (Sarah) been hanging out with these little buggers this week while Melanie and Doug are at a sheep show and sale. They are outgoing, loving, sassy and full of adventure. They are about 10 weeks old. Got them started on crate training at night this week.

Pupdate: Puppies will be three weeks old in a couple days! They’ve shown advancements in the last two days. Puppie’s eyes are now open and they’re trying hard to start walking (some already are!)! They respond readily to my voice and personalities are showing up. They’re at a good stage to cuddle and snuggle! Individual pictures are on the website and available to view. Think about who you’d like to take home!

Ben Rustad bought Drake from us quite a few years ago as a puppy, one of KC and Bear’s boys, he promised KC he would always take care of her puppy for the rest of his life. Ben and Drake are in the fight of their lives right now as Drake has been bitten by a tick and contracted Anaplasmosis. This disease attacks a dog’s platelets which can cause bleeding and inflammation in organ systems.
Drake is currently being treated in Madison, WI, he and Ben live in Davenport, IA, so it’s quite a trip to be going back and forth plus the many transfusions and medications he has received. Please read Ben and Drake’s story below, maybe you can help. Thank you.

🙏🙏PLEASE READ IN FULL🙏🙏
If you’re reading this there’s a good chance I’ve helped you at some point in the past!
As you may know we are fighting a battle for Drakes life. If you know me, my dogs are my children and they mean the world to me. Drake has been by my side through some of the hardest times of my life and he’s always showed me love. Therefore, I cannot give up on him at this time the battle we are fighting is a very winnable one, but it just takes time and unfortunately a lot of money. Drake has a positive prognosis to live a full, happy, healthy life. At this point, Drakes healthcare costs are approaching $20,000. I have always been a very giving person and have prided myself on never asking anyone else for help. I am also the person who will always come to help anyone in need. Unfortunately, at this time I am asking for help. I’m not asking for much But anything helps🙏 If everybody I’ve helped in my life was to give a small amount It would relieve a lot of stresses in continuing drakes treatments and his road back to health.. I’ve literally given well over 1000 people boat rides on the river, taken them hunting, or went out of my way to tow your boat safely back to shore. I have provided over 10,000 plus people over the years with a good time and brought many people to our small community as I’ve been organizing and put on the footfest river concert for the last 11 years straight every year which cost me money and time. I do that for all of you so you can enjoy a great day. At this time if you’re one of them people that I’ve towed in on the river, given boat rides and food and drinks and never accepted anything in return or I’ve spent hrs on the phone with just because I knew you needed someone to talk to. I’m asking you all for your help now.
Thanks Ben

Domel’s KC has passed over the Rainbow Bridge this last week. She was the matriarch of our pack, mother to many, many pups, daughter of our Maggie and Ted, a great sheep dog for our flock and a beloved member of our family. She is missed and has left us with many great memories. Her son, Hank, along with Sadie, will be in charge of producing puppies now. Their first litter was last year, their next will be in 2024.

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone from all of us here at Homestead Kennels! Sadie and Hank will not be having a litter this year as Sadie has come into heat at a late time. Puppies would not be ready to go until summer, at a time when we already have many plans of our own. This year we are super busy with the farm, livestock and family and are already looking forward to next year when we’ll be able to devote the time to a litter that it deserves to produce social and well-adjusted puppies for you to take home and love.

The Youngquist family lost its third soul in as many months as Zoey crossed the rainbow bridge. She was a friendly, affectionate fur baby and we will miss her dearly, but are comforted in knowing that she is no longer in pain. Zoey will always live in our hearts and our memories.
Zoey was a great dog from the Maggie/Ted litters here at Homestead Kennels. Condolences to her family.
