Homestead Kennels

Homestead Kennels Purebred English Springer Spaniels We have had springers for over 45 years; primarily using them for hunting upland game, water fowl and as family pets.

We have always found springers to be cheerful and affectionate, good with all family members and ever alert to intruders. Our springers have excelled in hunting; obedience; showmanship and agility training, proving themselves to be versatile dogs, good athletes, quick to learn and willing to obey. We have stressed an easy-going temperament in our breeding program, along with conformation, certification of hips, birdieness and a willingness to ‘play’!

Early this morning our son’s loving companion, Gus, passed away. He was from a KC x Bear litter, about 10 1/2 years old....

Early this morning our son’s loving companion, Gus, passed away. He was from a KC x Bear litter, about 10 1/2 years old. After arriving at their home from spending the day at the farm, playing with brother Hank and Sadie, he was in distress. ER vets could not find a cause until they x-rayed him and found an unknown tumor. Understandably the hardest decision he’s made, it was time.
We’ll miss Gus, he was a happy boy, loved going hunting, in the dog pool and being with his family. Bye Gussie, see you down the road and over the Bridge.

Sadie presented me with a present yesterday evening as I finished feeding the horses. A rooster pheasant!! We thought she caught it on her own. Doug thinks it was one he wounded the other day and couldn’t find. She was pretty proud of her catch! Good girl!

Homestead puppies reunion! Luna and Perrl (outside pups), and niece Sky got together for a playdate in WI, where they live. News is they played themselves out to a good snooze. KC and Bear are Perrl and Luna’s folks. Hank (the girls’ brother), and Sadie are Skye’s folks. This is great, so nice to see the pups pictures, they’re pretty girls. Thanks so much for sharing!
