Every shelter everywhere. Help out our local shelter, they're at capacity and need some donations

Good afternoon,

We are always asked how people can help if they cannot adopt! There are a few ways. Volunteer is a big one! The shelter is open Tuesday to Saturday 8am to 12pm. Volunteers are always welcome. Since TCHS is 100% donation based, helping fill some of the wishlist items helps relieve just even a tiny amount of financial burden the shelter encounters. This community has been amazing and we hate having to ask for help again. However, we are the animals voices and we are again asking for any help you can provide!

The rescue dogs that have stayed here have almost all arrived via a transport van. It is a huge asset in saving animals on death row. Any amount helps. Rescues and transports are run by volunteers. All donations go directly to saving animals.

What a great weekend with the current guests. Dogs are the bestest! A few photos of their cuteness. And a very special guest while her dog mom was traveling. Miss Carolina, came to stay because she's timid with new people and her mom wanted her comfortable while she was away. ♥️love hers so much

Haven't posted in awhile, so thought I'd give a quick update.
There is a huge need for pet care in the area.
As some of you know, this is a side venture since I also work full time in addition to the dog boarding. That being said, I currently give priority to established customers. I take on new customers when the schedule allows. Keeping a work life balance has been part of the journey. Dogs who stay get out of their kennels 4x a day for walks and I'm not willing to sacrifice their care for large numbers of dogs. I've found the perfect balance for the dogs and schedule accordingly. A calm, comfortable stay has always been #1 priority. 🐾♥️

This happened in Davenport Iowa. A 5 year old dog was hung and then stored in a freezer. Please consider signing the petition and sharing to ensure justice for the dog.

A man allegedly committed a disturbing act of animal cruelty by hanging a dog and storing its body in a freezer. Demand stringent legal action.

Sad. This has happened to several rescues, targeted by social media rumors. In the end, it hurts the animals most. 😥

PLEASE READ: With the start of the new year, it is a good time to assess where we have been and where we are going. Over the last few months, we were in the process of realigning the shelter’s mission/focus for 2024 to lighten the load since we are primarily volunteer-based. Many of us have been volunteering our time for over 10+ years. However, some recent developments over the past week have changed our plans altogether.

Effective immediately, we are closed for intake and will not be able to help any future animals in need. Additionally, we will be closing our rescue completely after the cats in our care have been adopted. We have many, many wonderful cats and kittens needing families to love and care for them so please continue to share our posts and if you were ever considering adopting a kitty, now just might be the purrfect time.

Unfortunately, shelters are threatened and ours was not immune. Terrible, untrue accusations were unfairly made and individuals associated with the rescue were targeted. Social media has its positives, but it also has its negatives, and it can quickly become the source of lies and false narratives that not only are used to bully and intimidate, but to ultimately destroy.

We are so sorry that we could not keep this rescue going. We tried to help the pets and people of our community for many years. Our business has been on Panora’s Main Street for over a decade and has employed several wonderful people over the years. With our closing, two individuals will lose their jobs.

We still have many cats in our care and we will continue to care for them until the last one is adopted. Please know that all donations made to us will be used to continue to care for them. We are still a 501c3 nonprofit. Once we are closed, our equipment and any funds remaining will go to AHeinz57 and Cass County Cats, two wonderful, nonprofits that are dedicated to helping cats. Again, we thank you for all of your support over the years. We hope you will continue to support us during this difficult transition, and we are so very sorry to all the wonderful people that have adopted and supported us, but we are especially sorry for all the animals that may not get the assistance they need.

📸 The most photogenic dog we have ever had is STILL with us. In 18 days he will be the first dog we have ever had to be with us for a full year, making him our longest term dog!! It's not that he hasn't had applications, he has had plenty, but when it comes to the meet and greet with other dogs he has acted like a fool 🤦🏼‍♀️ even though he is dog friendly, first impressions with him are everything. He has also had many applicants that live where there are breed restrictions, or he gets ghosted. We've been a tad picky on where he goes because we don't want to set him up for a return.

🐶 Xavier is good with kids (12+) that understand he's not a toy, he doesn't like his face messed with when he's sleeping, he isn't a wrestling kind of dog. He does play with kids well, he occasionally gets a tad mouthy and needs corrected, he takes verbal correction well as long as you are firm. He is almost 5 years old and you'd think he was only 2, but you'd never need to potty train this boy, he's the best of the best!!!

🏠 But he is FANTASTIC in the house 😭 like, so well behaved it's incredible. Perfect in his kennel, he adapts to new environments better than most. Do I even need to tell you to look at his face?!? 😍 Absolutely gorgeous!!

He was in a high kill shelter set to be euthanized for kennel cough!!! We fought like hell to get him out of there and they actually told us no, but we wouldn't accept that.
Here he is alive and well, with no home for Christmas. 😔

Thanksgiving is coming up so it's time to think about what foods might be dangerous for your pets. Make sure you also educate guests in your home about what foods they should not feed the pets.

Not all of these foods are deadly, but if not they can at least make your pet sick. We hear people say, "I fed that to my dog and he was fine!" But was he? Dogs can be very stoic about pain. Perhaps it was just an upset stomach but we should want to avoid even something like that. Ask yourself, "Is it worth the risk?"

And remember, even if a food is on the safe list it should still be given in moderation.

*Remember that even the water or a little pollen from lilies can kill or cause severe neurological & organ damage in cats. Don't have them in your house if you have cats!! If you even think your cat came in contact, call poison control & see a vet immediately.
Pine needles and water are not on this list, but can also be a danger.
