Today is National Pet Choking Prevention Day.

Did you know that more than 200,000 pet choking incidents occur in the US every year.
Here's some tips to keep your pet safe:
1. Size matters - make sure toys like balls are too big for your pet to swallow. Look for toys that have holes in them so if your pet does attempt to swallow them they will not fully obstruct the airway.
2. Remove chews when they get small enough to be swallowed whole.
3. Make sure strings are secured and not a choking risk - cats like toddlers will often play with the string on window blinds and can fall and become caught.
4. Be careful to keep your dog away from kids' toys and pacifiers.
5. Use caution with leaving collars on unattended pets. Pets can get collars caught cause damage to the neck and spine trying to free themselves.

Today is National Dachshund Day.
Do you have a Dachshund? Share a pic!

It may seem random but National Dachshund Day coincides with the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere- since they have the longest bodies relative to their size.

Dachshund comes from badger ("Dachs") and dog ("hund") and is pronounce "daaks-hunt" in German. They are often referred to as doxies or wiener dogs.

Dachshunds were originally bred to hunt and track burrow-dwelling animals and their long narrow bodies allow them to navigate underground tunnels.

Because of their long bodies, Dachshunds are prone to back problems especially if they are overweight.

While most people are used to seeing miniature dachshunds, there is also a standard dachshund that can be up to 35lbs at an ideal lean body condition. They also come in 3 coat variation: smooth, wirehaired, or longhaired.

It's National Take Your Cat to Work Day!
This is the purr-fect way to kick off Take Your Pet to Work Week.

The idea of bringing a dog to the workplace has become more commonplace but some social felines want to join the festivities. If your company is participating and your cat is a social butterfly here are a few tips for Take Your Cat to Work Day:
1. Make sure your cat is comfortable with car rides
2. Make sure you can safely contain you cat while you work - we don't want cats getting spooked and running off.
3. Make sure to bring a litterbox (unless your cat is trained to potty on a leash).

Alternatively, consider working from home with your cat! You can use cardboard and a phone or tablet to make a mini computer for your cat to watch bird videos on while you work.

๐Ÿพ There's a common misconception that a pet's microchip works like a GPS, but it's actually a permanent ID tag that uses radio waves to transmit a unique ID code.

That code is connected a database with your contact info, so when the code gets accessed, you can be reached (which is why it's crucial you keep that information up to date!)

It's Hug Your Cat Day!

It's the purr-fect time to show you cat a little extra affection. Here's some ideas on how to pamper your feline today:

- Cuddle time- If your cat likes to cuddle, try setting aside a little extra time to curl up on the couch with your kitty.

- Playtime! - Not every cat is a cuddler. If your cat is more the active type then use interactive toys like a feather lure to play with your kitty.

- Spa day - Some cats like a spa day too. Get their favorite brush and settle in for an extended grooming session.

- Toys and Treats! - Spoil your kitty with some new catnip toys or their favorite treats.

- Upgrade your kitty's space -Think about setting up a cat corner in your house as a safe place for your kitty. Set up a cozy bed, a cat tree and some toys in an area dedicated to your kitty. Try to make this somewhere safe from dogs or children so your kitty can go there for some private time to relax.

- Catio! - Some cats love the outdoors, but its not always safe for cats to roam unattended. Think about creating a catio so you cat can enjoy the summer in safety.

Share how you are celebrating!

Today is International Corgi day!
Do you have a corgi? Share a pic!

Corgis are a herding breed originating from Wales. They are known as 'heelers' because they would often nip at the heels of their herd to move them faster.

There is some interesting lore surrounding the origins of the breed. As the story goes, two human children stumbled upon a fairy funeral in the woods and were gifted two corgi puppies. It is said that the rougher coat at the base of corgi haunches are the saddle lines from when fairies used them as war horses.

๐Ÿพ It's time to debunk microchip myths! ๐Ÿพ

Contrary to popular belief, microchips aren't trackers like AirTags. They're simply permanent ID tags under your pet's skin, using harmless radio waves to transmit a unique code. Scanning them doesn't hurt your furry friend either!
