There appears to be much misunderstanding about Creation Kingdom Zoo not reopening to the public in 2025. For those who need clarification, none of our animals need homes, they have a home. We look forward to seeing you at Expedition Untamed.

Special Announcement -Caution Long Post
Throughout life each of us are brought through various challenges, not meant to break us, but rather make us or even those around us better versions of ourselves. In the 17 years the zoo has been open to the public, 2024 was the most challenging. Hurricane Helene brought significant damage in September then the devastating fire in November. The Virginia Legislative season in 2024 and again in early 2025 has a climate of anti conservation and animal welfare for farms, zoos and pet owners alike across the Commonwealth. We want to thank our local politicians for their dedication to fighting this threatening legislation as it continues to arise.
Change is an ever constant part of life and the ability to adapt to changes we cannot control is crucial to moving forward and accomplishing missions. For 2025 the Zoo has been faced with tremendous challenges and as stewards of Gods creation, the long term sustainability of our animals. After much prayer and long conversations with other facilities across Virginia and other states, we have found it unwise to invest additional resources into operations in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Above all, we have an obligation to care for the planet and animals God created. Thus the Zoo has decided to not reopen Creation Kingdom Zoo but instead accomplish our mission in two ways: First, continue conservation efforts outside Virginia privately for a portion of our animals- for nearly 10 yrs prior to opening to the public, we worked to ensure species survival for generations to come and we will continue those efforts moving forward. Secondly, we are also excited to announce we have partnered with Expedition Untamed in Kingsport, TN to bring an indoor rainforest adventure for families to continue learning about the amazing animals and ecosystems we share the planet with. We encourage our followers of Creation Kingdom Zoo to follow and visit Expedition Untamed as we work together to highlight our fragile ecosystems and the impact on the animals that live there. We want to thank every single person, school, and church that has supported the Zoo in Gate City over the years. Your kind words, smiles and laughter have been the fuel that enabled us to help keep some critical endangered species around for at least one more generation. Your generous donations will continue to ensure the Creators Hand in this masterpiece we call Earth is known. You helped make Kashtan’s Wildlife in the Zoo the number one kids documentary in America it’s first season, and season two is surpassing those records with season three finishing filming now. God has risen a tremendous opportunity from the ashes with Expedition Untamed. We look forward to working behind the scenes to ensure no animal is left behind. Stay tuned for more info…….

We’ve been silent for a bit as we maintain day to day operations with temporary electric, working from makeshift kitchens, and getting plans together to rebuild. First and foremost we want to thank God for His grace. Things don’t always go as we plan, but that’s ok. That’s where we grow. Just like fire is a necessity for certain ecosystems to thrive, like seeds of lodgepole pine or eucalyptus encased in resin that must melt in order to release seeds, our lives too experience growth after the fires of life. Easy street doesn’t build resilience. Secondly we want to genuinely thank every person who’s reached out to us with a donation or kind word. We are not impervious to heartache and your kindness invigorates us. We have a looong way to go and a lot to accomplish but we will see you on opening day Spring 2025. Stay tuned for updates and opportunities for those of you who offered your services and help. We’ll also post services we’re looking for to get these projects completed! Enjoy this holiday season!

It’s been 5 days since a devastating fire destroyed the power grid in the zoo. But our resilient staff has worked long hours to meet the needs of our animals as well as work over each night to ensure we got power operating in all areas. Today was the first full day with 85% power and 100% in all animal areas. It’s temporary but functional.

Quick update: at 8pm last night our crew was able to restore temporary power to 3 additional exhibits. While it is only a small step forward, it allows us to remove one generator from the mix. A big Thank you to our staff who’s working tirelessly to complete not only their daily routines, but the extra load. Thanks also to Tyler at Smith Electrical Contractors for their assistance and generosity.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our first responders this morning. Nicklesville, Gate City, Weber City, Dungannon, Hiltons and Duffield Fire Departments, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Dispatch and Virginia State Police for their assistance to our devastating fire. While the fire is currently under investigation, we ask that you be patient while we address some of the questions you have. This is a very difficult time for our entire family and staff and we are sincerely touched by the literal thousands of people who have offered help and prayers. We’re thankful to every zoo from the west coast to the far north and locally who have offered equipment to help us complete the immediate tasks before us. Difficult times are not meant to destroy us, but strengthen and empower.

Last night, the Zoo experienced a devastating overnight fire. While we work through this, we ask that you keep our family, staff and animal family in your prayers. We are closed until further notice. 😢
