Ralphie
Ralphie is just staying the night with us but he kicked off his stay with some time in the pool!
Cash and the pool.
Now that Cash is a pro at dock diving, it’s time to add in a little bit of obedience! This is a great way to incorporate structure and obedience with something that brings excitement!
Cream
We’ve been horrible at posting training updates lately but check out Cream! Here’s a little compilation of his sessions lately. He’s a pup that lacks exposure and needed to get out and see the world while also using his brain.
He’s a rescue through Reflextion Ranch. Cream is a great example of why we encourage short and sweet sessions. All of our sessions with him are about 10 minutes long, even when we take him in public. This is due to him slowly getting into his head over time, we want to make all interactions positive and slowly add time to our sessions to push past the stress he may feel in new environments.
Gypsy
We always aim to have fun in our training sessions and make the dog think it’s there idea to do what we want them to do. Gypsy examples this as she beats me to place and happily waits for her reward! 🤩
Sully! This guy LOVES to train! He’s such an active pup and loves to use that brain of his. Check out this raw video of us starts to finish not just teaching “place” but also showing Sully how to be operant. Meaning he’s thinking on his own and controlling the reinforcement rather than me having to tell him what to do.
This is his second session on operant conditioning and pairing his marker works like “yes” which means come to me for reward, “good” which means I come to you to give reward, “uh oh” which mean you made a mistake and “no” which means wrong behavior try again. This pup is super smart.
Dock diving with shelter dogs!
Jumping right into the week with a dock lesson with a couple of pups from Red Oak Animal Care and Control! These guys won the lottery with TeeJay, who’s an amazing volunteer and decided to bust them out for the day and make the drive to give them some pool time.
Both of these cuties are available for adoption at the Red Oak shelter! Seriously don’t know how these two haven’t made it out yet! Hamlet has been there quite a while.
Apollo
Update on Apollo. With a dog like him, the things you typically wouldn’t want is exactly what we’re rewarding. Like with the kennel, he avoided it a little which is a huge win for us.
Why didn’t I go right into a session with him feeling good? I don’t want him to think “fun brings stress” because he’s a dog that views almost everything as something stressful. I really want to build up the FUN first. Then integrate the stressful stuff so he begins to think “stress brings fun!” and eventually that “stress” starts to diminish.

HUGE thank you to Kim Hill Accredited Land Consultant for taking the time to interview us and create this amazing video.
Apollo
Dog training is a roller coaster. You’re going to have progression and regression, it’s NORMAL. It’s also important to recognize when that’s happening and to make sure you adjust to the problem in front of you rather than focusing on the big picture.
Dock Diving
Yesterday we had a group of trainers out from Ward's Dog Training to learn some things and train some dogs! We ended the day getting some of their dogs in the pool!
Thanks for bringing your crew out!
Good laugh
Those that have had lessons with Madison will know! 🤣 Tell your dog right now!
Madea Puzzle Feeder
Madea is having to take it easy due to a possible hurt knee. So in addition to pool therapy, we have pulled out some puzzle feeders to keep her mind engaged without stressing her joints. Thinks she gets an A+ for this one!!
Bud
Those goats might get the best of Bud but at least he knows to come when called!
Bud is available for adoption and has showed us to be such a great companion! He’s great with kids! Doesn’t mind cats, coexist with dogs! He definitely lives by “go with the flow”
Quizz and Cash!
Sometimes you just need a friend to help give you that little bit of confidence you needed! As you’ve seen Cash has become a pro at the pool but today was the first time Quizz jumped off the dock!
Apollo
Apollo, one of the pups we have from Reflextion Ranch and is doing really well! He’s a bit of a unique case so he’s been staying with Madison and training at her house. Apollo is a dog that’s unfortunately a prisoner to his own mind. Constantly on edge and in his head no matter what is going on or where he’s at, the only real break we’ve seen from him is when he’s engaging with other dogs but even then you can see the anxiety peaking through.
Since being with us our primary focus has been engagement and introducing games to him that can help make it fun being introduced to new environments/stimuli. As of right now with our training plan we’ve introduced a very low dose of medication to coincide with training so it can help take the edge off a little bit.
As Apollo continues to progress we’ll wean him off medication in hopes that the work we’ve put in starts to become muscle memory for him and that he’ll realize how fun it is to be a dog! With the way things are progressing, he’s going to be such a fun little dude once he’s free from that mind of his!
Leash Desensitization with Quizz
Quizz is a pretty insecure dog and super suspicious and nervous with the leash. This is something we’ve noticed right off the bat when he came for training. We’ve been working on a “touch” trick with him and now utilizing it to help him work through his stress with something going over or around his head.
The only goal right now is that he boops his nose to our hand and then gets paid!
Kilo Update! Kilo is the dog we pulled from a euthanasia list from an animal shelter and we have been training him for drug detection work. Here he is working a patio looking for his kong. As you can see he knows his job well!!
Miss Wednesday is nearing the end of her board and train and we are working hard to proof her down in a lot of different situations and will see some of these in the video.
She gets a little anxious around bikes (and other wheeled object) so we have worked this angle in a lot of ways and can see a little of it in the first clip. Quizz and DOG even got to help us out!!
