Merry Beary Christmas to my amazing husband! After a very very long hibernation his 300+ lb black bear made an appearance!

This project was my most challenging to date. Not because of size but because of the issues caused by dry tanning the hide 12 years ago.
Iv gotten some crazy looks when I tell customers not to dry tan something they might want to mount later and if they insist I tell them it should still be frozen. Jeff’s bear hung around for 5-6 years before rehydrating. Surprisingly it held together. It’s common for older dry tans to fall apart if rehydrated. Then life got in the way even more and like a mechanics car this project kept getting bumped to the back of the line. There was zero stretch to the hide and nothing wanted to hold any shape. Everything had to be pinned in place and adjusted as it dried. In the end he’s not perfect but he made a beautiful mount! Merry Christmas!

It’s been a very Beary Christmas. Another Michigan Black Bear home for Christmas. This one had an exceptionally golden muzzle. Custom studio made blown down broken pine habitat.

Here’s a unique one! Ranch escapee shot in the wild. I think he looks like a deer and red stag mix! Not possible to my knowledge but still cool! Another studio lost the cape for this beautiful buck so I matched it as close as I could.

Beautiful Michigan black bear went home for Christmas. Custom studio made habitat swamp edge scene to replicate the area this bear was in.

Congratulations are in order for all the successful hunters this season! I am presently working behind the scenes to complete various projects, while taking care of the detailed processes of skinning, fleshing, salting, and preparing hides for the tannery. A sizeable collection of mounts will be showcased after Christmas, although I may display a few select pieces between now and then.

Please be advised that I am still accepting deer and other animals for shoulder mounts, but I am not currently accepting additional fish, birds, or lifesize mounts unless specifically discussed.

Here’s a tall one from mid Michigan! Custom looking down pose to better display in clients home. I made a decent size antler repair by request. Can you find it? I don’t do a lot of antler repairs but I think I’m getting better 😀

Heck of a nice chunky Northern Michigan buck right here. Someone missed a vital shot on him in a previous season. Crazy how tough these animals really are.

The straight upright ears forward! Old school charm? Displayability? Most Taxidermists loath this pose but this dark Northern Michigan 8pt really looks great in this pose! This buck even had a pure black “mane”.

Taking photos of deer mounts during the opening weekend of Michigans rifle season is risky business!

🦌🐻 First crate full of hides being delivered to K&K Tannery!! We’ve got a mixed bag going on. Deer, Elk, Bear and even a Red Stag in there! Ready for the next round of 🦌 ! Bucks are moving in Northern MI!

Old cow skull found in a field. It was covered in moss and a lot of dirt/grime. Cleaned up but left in a natural weathered state.
