Some great western history here.

Built near the Guadalupe River bottom country where pecan, elm, hickory, oak, cypress, cottonwood and walnut trees grew, the El Capote cabin (C. 1838), Spanish for "the cape," contains more adventure and mystery than any other NRHC structure. Named for the nearby hills that spread out like a flowing cloak, the rustic dwelling was part of the Capote Six Leagues, a stock farm located upon a plateau between the Oakville Escarpment and the Austin Chalk Cuesta.

The humble one-room cabin was built in one county that split into two—Gonzales and Guadalupe—right through the Capote property. Further, the cabin has existed under the governance of three flags: the Republic of Texas, the United States of America, and the Confederate States of America.

El Capote has ties to several famous rebellions through its first European owner and French nobleman, Count Joseph de La Baume, and has been linked with royalty, politicians, war heroes and a future United States President.

Learn the national story of the structure by planning your visit to the NRHC today.

We want to extend a big thank you to Mackynzie Wilson for her purchase of this c**t by the name of “Hold em @ Ransom,” a name that Mackynzie was excited to choose.

The mare and c**t were the first of ten new mares we've added to our herd, working closely with Jan & Sam @ Miller Acres to add to our breeding program. This c**t’s sire, JC Flashbac “Davey,” is owned by Jan & Sam. Davey has sired many National and All Around AQHA Champions. Thanks to everyone mentioned!!

A set of pistols found on the Arabia steamboat. In September of 1856 the Arabia left Kansas up the Missouri River and hit a sunken tree which ripped a hole in the hull. The ship sank into the mud and after a few days, the current swept the boat away. All attempts at salvage failed and the boat was forgotten. Until a man and his sons located the site and excavated the site in 1988. Over the years the Missouri River had shifted about a half a mile, and by the time they dug it up, it was under a corn field.

In the midst of World War II, the Coast Guard Beach Patrol diligently safeguarded over 3,700 miles of coastline, enlisting the service of approximately 24,000 men. These patrols, mounted on horseback, operated in pairs, maintaining a distance of around 100 feet from each other while effectively patrolling a 2-mile expanse. Known as "Sand Pounders," these skilled individuals adeptly traversed challenging landscapes with remarkable speed and efficiency. This account dates back to the year 1945.
