We cannot express how excited we are to share with you that Winnie has been officially adopted this week 🥹 We knew the perfect family was out there, and we are forever grateful for her patient foster mom, who has been advocating for Winnie since she met her at GCAC several years ago.

With Christmas quickly approaching, we wanted to share some tips to help keep everyone feeling safe and cheerful this holiday season!

1. Create a Quiet Retreat

Set up a safe room or cozy crate away from the chaos. Add familiar blankets, toys, and calming music.
Tip: Let guests know it’s a “do not disturb” area.

2. Stick to Their Routine

As much as possible, keep mealtimes, potty breaks, and walks normal. Consistency helps reduce stress and overstimulation.

3. Watch the Escape Artists

Guests coming and going = perfect escape opportunities. Use baby gates, leashes at the door, and hang a reminder sign for guests.

4. Protect Them From Holiday Foods

Chocolate, cooked bones, grapes/raisins, alcohol, xylitol, and fatty foods can be dangerous. Have pet-safe treats ready so family can still “include” them.

5. Manage Introductions

New people or pets visiting? Go slow, watch body language, and give them breaks. No forced interactions — especially with kids!

6. Enrichment Ends Meltdowns

Before guests arrive, let them burn off energy with a walk, puzzle feeder, lick mat, or quick training session.

7. Decor Hazards Are Real

Secure trees, hide cords, avoid tinsel with cats, and keep candles up high. “Cute but safe” is the goal!

8. Give Nervous Pets an Out

If crowds or noise overwhelm them, allow them to decompress alone without guilt. Comfort over chaos.

9. Communicate With Guests

Let visitors know your pet’s rules: no table scraps, no chasing, no picking up, no open doors. Clear expectations keep everyone safe.

10. Keep ID Tags & Microchips Updated

Just in case an escape happens during the rush of festivities.

Bay Area Rescue & K9 Outreach was founded just this year, and is already making a difference in their community. This week for we are asking you to help us share Murphy from Flint City Pits, he is running out of time 💔

💔 Murphy Needs a Miracle Before the End of the Month 💔

If we can’t find Murphy’s people soon, he will be homeless by the end of this month.
Murphy is an incredibly sweet, goofy, high-energy boy who just wants a family to love. He’s potty trained, crate trained (even though he’s not a huge fan), he does need daily medication only if being crated—but he takes it like a champ.

He’s also wonderfully social and gets along great with both small and big dogs.
Murphy would thrive with a fenced-in yard where he can get his zoomies out. When he can’t release that energy, he gets anxious and a bit mouthy—not biting, just trying to tell you he needs to run or play. When he’s done? He naps as hard as he plays.

He’s a total velcro dog who loves being close to his people. A stay-at-home parent would be a dream for him, but we know that’s rare—so his ideal family is simply someone committed to giving him structure, patience, exercise, and continued training. He’s smart, he’s eager to please, and he’s already completed one puppy class. He knows his basic commands and even “leave it.”

Murphy has so much love to give. He just needs someone to give him a chance.

These STAR dogs and SoulDogs worked their tails off raising money for Saving Tails Animal Rescue & Outreach today. We raised a few hundred to go towards outreach supplies like coats, hay, igloos, but also for the Thanksgiving puppies who are struggling with an infection and pneumonia. Thank you to everyone who donated and everyone who stopped by to tell these dogs how wonderful they are! A special thanks to SugarHigh Bakery for hosting. 🧁
