with Spring and Summer approaching many people will find Wildlife babies. Please DO NOT PICK THEM UP.
Here are some helpful hints:
BUNNIES:
If you find a nest of bunnies, do not take them out of the nest. If you accidentally touch them or the nest put a few drops of vanilla around the nest and keep away from it. More then likely you will never see the mother rabbit feed them.Try keeping your pet and children away from the nest and please DO NOT mow over the nest. It will not take very long and they'll be gone. If you see a bunny that is out of the nest, furred and eyes open, please dont pick it up. If it looks like it can sit in the palm of your hand it is already on its own. Just not smart enough yet to run away.
Baby Birds:
Little birds will jump out of the nest when they are old enough, they do not fly at this point.
If you think you must do something follow this:
Take a margarine or coolwhip container, puncture holes from the INSIDE out, rough part must be on the outside to prevent injury to the baby bird. DO NOT add any kleenex or other material in the container. Place the container as far up the tree or shrub as you can go, put bird in container and stay away, Bird parents will feed out of different nests. Both bird parents do the feeding. Baby bird will continue to jump out of the nest, this is part of the growing up process. They will learn to fly with in a few days.
Fawns
Please do not touch them. If you have one in your yard. Stay away from it, keep pets and children away. Mom did not abandon the fawn. The fawn is thought to lay still till mom gets back. This keeps the predators away. Fawns have very little odor for the same reason. You will not see the mother deer feed her baby. If you have one in a fenced in yard, dont worry. mom will help the fawn to get out when ready.
