What an incredible experience the last week has been. The Super Retriever Series crown championship was an emotional roller coaster to say the least.
This was my first time to the crown. I went in with managed expectations and high hopes. I knew the Windy Hill Retrievers dogs were capable. I know how hard we have worked to get ready.
We had two dogs in the amateur division, wiggles, and Nova handled by Rob Robinette. Rob has put in countless hours learning to handle these dogs. If there was a most improved handler award he no doubt would win it. This was Rob’s second year competing with retrievers at any level, so to finish 7th in one of the toughest amateur fields ever is beyond an amazing achievement. Proud of you more than you’ll ever know.
In the Open we had Cajun and Barrett.
Cajun owned by Bennett Sheltra was the youngest dog qualified and his immaturity showed. But just to be there at his age is a testament to his raw talent. The future is limitless for him.
Barrett owned by Kevin Riddell and Leanne Elizabeth of Canine Field Co handled adversity better than any dog I’ve ever seen. He fought his way into every series. Never giving up, always getting better.
This dog gave me every drop of effort he had and set an exemplary example of what a true teammate is.
Bear fought his way from 11th to 4th place in the finals.
This dog owes me nothing, but gave me everything.
He is truly a once in a lifetime dog.
Kevin and Leann,
I can never thank you enough for trusting me with him. I have grown to love him as much as you do and he makes it effortless to do so.
Jeanette Demmer and my boys…thank you all for supporting me with no limits.
Bethann Harris and Cliff Harris, your unwavering support of Team Windy Hill makes us proud to call you family. Thank you guys.
Windy Hill will be back next year, stronger and better…we have unfinished business to handle.
