I often see pet owners dragging their dogs away from smelling things and rushing the walk- it makes me very sad for the dog. It’s one of their releases from the same daily routine. While walking your dog, stop and take a moment to “smell the roses” too. Life is always rushing us. Take time to enjoy a walk with your best four legged friend 😉

“Imagine going on a long-anticipated walk, through beautiful scenery, after you have been cooped up all day in the same place, but you have been fitted with a blind fold and are being dragged along at a fast pace. I imagine that this is how dogs feel when we don’t allow them time to stop and sniff the environment. Dogs largely perceive their world through smell and it’s how they collect and process information and make sense of their world. Taking away an opportunity for sniffing on a walk is not in their best interests and as much as physical exercise is important, the mental stimulation that sniffing provides is equally, if not more important.
Studies have shown that allowing dogs to spend time sniffing provides so many benefits – promoting calmness, lowering stress and anxiety levels, lowering pulse rates, preventing cognitive decline and providing mental stimulation and enrichment are just some examples.
Make time for a slow “sniffing walk”, where your dog is allowed to decide which direction to go and allowed to simply follow their nose to their noses content! It may take more patience as we wait for them to finish smelling that blade of grass, but the benefits are well worth it”.

Those who know me, know it’s in my heart to help others. Last year through my charity Crede’s Cause, I did a backpack/ school supply drive for the kids of our community. I have closed my charity, but still want to help the community.

This year I will personally be collecting school supplies of all kinds and gently used children’s clothing for school aged kids up to teens.
I will collect supplies through August 1st at my home in Pell Lake and have a give away garage sale style ( but free) on August 10th ( my birthday).

Please donate supplies such as :
#2 pencils, black, blue and red pens, notebooks, loose leaf paper, folders, binders, rulers and backpacks. Post it notes, note cards, markers and crayons are also needed.

I will also accept gently used clothing for boys and girls so kids can have some new(ish) clothing for school. My only ask is that the clothing is clean and sorted by size because I work 2 jobs and don’t have time to wash and sort before the give away.

Supplies and clothing can be dropped off at W1382 Greenview rd on my covered porch through August 1st.

Let’s help the kids in our community off to a good start for the school year 😉

Hi friends! It’s me Sage 😊
I’ve been in foster a couple of months now and am doing great! I’m a happy girl who loves people. I’m about 5 years old, weighing appx. 25 lbs, fully vetted, chipped, and spayed.
I prefer to be the only dog in your home , not because I’m mean to other dogs, I just lived on the streets of Puerto Rico and didn’t have great experiences with other dogs.
I know my basic commands, I am housebroken, and walk nicely on a leash.

I’d love to be your new best friend! Message Crede’s to find out how to get in touch with my foster.

Psssssst…

Just a gentle reminder:

❌Your dog doesn’t need you to be the alpha

❌They don’t need you to put them in their place

❌They don’t need to be physically or verbally intimidated using any manner of “training” tools

They need compassion. They need empathy. They need you to understand them and to listen to them.

And this is even more important if you’re dealing with fear or aggression.

My foster dog Pico left for his forever home today! 35 days in foster for this scared little one. We didn’t want to push him for an adoption photo cause he’s still unsure, so this is him heading off to his new life.
He’s living with two ladies who have adopted puppy mill dogs and understand he will need a few weeks to adjust.

So many rescues need Fosters right now…. Ask me how you can help and I can direct you to one in your area.

Happy tails Pico!

Adoption fees waived!

‼📣🚨FLASH SALE -Friday 7/5 and Saturday 7/6! Dog adoption fees will be waived for dogs at WCAS! 🚨📣‼

It's a busy time of year for us at Winnebago County Animal Services, and this week is typically one of our busiest with stray pets coming in due to the 4th of July holiday.
We are at capacity and facing difficult decisions in regards to space and lifesaving.
We have a full house here at our shelter and need to make room to help the influx of animals coming in.

We are hoping this gives anyone who has been thinking about bringing a new dog into their home the final inspiration to do so. All adopters will still go through our typical adoption process.

All adoptions include a wellness exam, spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations including a one year rabies shot, flea and tick preventative, and more. Adopters are encouraged to have their application pre-approved prior to the event.

📢If you're interested in adopting one of these wonderful dogs, please visit www.WinnebagoAnimals.org to view pets at
Winnebago County Animal Services and complete an adoption questionnaire. We are closed the 4th of July holiday. We are then open 11am to 4:30pm Friday and 11am until 3:30pm Saturday!

If you asked me to name the single most important thing you can do for your dog, it would be this.

Keep your dog feeling safe.

This is not to be confused with your dog being safe, or whether or not you think your dog is safe. This is about keeping your dog *feeling* safe. Which means identifying what your dog finds stressful or scary by learning how to observe and read their body language to recognize when, where, and under what circumstances they feel uncomfortable, and doing whatever you can to avoid those situations.

This can mean that your dog never visits another dog park.

This can mean that even though it’s a beautiful Sunday and you’d love to have brunch on a patio of your favorite restaurant with your dog, your dog stays home.

This can mean that you politely (or not) decline requests to pet your dog.

This can mean that when children come over your house, your dog is in another room with a yummy Kong.

This can mean that you walk your dog during quiet times of the day.

This can mean that you drive your dog to walk them in a different area.

Whatever it means for you and your dog, keep your dog feeling safe.

You are your dog’s best and only advocate. You are what stands between them and the rest of the world, a world where dogs are set up to fail every day with often heartbreaking consequences. This doesn’t mean that we don’t also actively and *humanely* work to help our dogs feel more comfortable and confident in this world, but it does mean that until they do, WE HAVE TO KEEP THEM FEELING SAFE.

Our dogs are relying on us, it’s our job to have their backs.

Get ready now. Fireworks will start this weekend and continue for a few weeks.
*fill meds
*start cbd now if that is your plan for comfort
*make sure tags and chips are up to date with current info and dogs and cats are wearing collars
*do not walk dogs at night around the holiday- fireworks can scare them and make them run
*watch doors when company is coming and going
* be careful

Be safe and have a fun holiday!

This is very true. Your dog or cat will be ok if you work a long days- they just want to be with you when you’re home. There are options such as pet sitters and dog walkers that can help you.

Pets are a lifetime commitment- please remember that when choosing a breed or pet that fits your lifestyle.

06/13/2024

Today we are going to talk about microchips.

Any pet can be microchipped- it’s most important for cats who are indoor/ outdoor and dogs. Any pet can get out of the house, even if you say your cat is an indoor cat. Things happen. Doors are left open, guests coming and going, fireworks on holidays scare pets and they run off.

Microchipping is easy- it’s done before you adopt a pet and your vet can insert one too.

HOWEVER- YOU MUST REGISTER THE CHIP AS THE OWNER. If you do not, the organization that chipped the pet remains the main contact. Once you register, you become primary and the inserting rescue/ organization or vet becomes secondary.

** ONE IMPORTANT NOTE* just because a clinic or organization chips your pet as part of their program, it DOES NOT MEAN THEY HAVE RIGHTS TO THAT ANIMAL. Unless the animal was ADOPTED from the organization who chipped them, they have no rights to any information about your pet. This is a common misconception about chipping.
This is why it’s imperative to register YOUR PET TO YOURSELF as soon as they are chipped or adopted.

I still have about 50 adopters who have not registered pets adopted from me even though the info is included in the adoption file.

Microchips assure a reunion of a lost pet if properly registered. If you move, change the address- it’s easy!

Message me if you need info on how to register your chips.

With firework season upon us, verify your chips are registered with your current phone number and address 😉
