Is tonight possibly the night that Noelle releases her hostage? She’s been baking that baby for over a year. She’s very uncomfortable, laying on her side, then sitting up, over and over. We are all ready for this baby to be born. Come on, Noelle!

It’s been a really expensive week here. First, Kesha had to have eye enucleation as her cornea ruptured. (I put the photo in the comments). Today, we had to have a plumber as our water heater decided to die. We need supplies, and we have been hit with big expenses. 😫Please consider donating to Bluegrass B***o Rescue. Someone needs to tell these cats that we are an equine rescue. 😂 This is the second Tom cat to show up in our barn. We got Chauncey vaccinated and neutered. Now this bobtail tabby tomcat is living in our hay. Lol of course he is welcomed to stay, but if he does, he will be losing his jewels. 😹
Everyone gets fixed here, so fair warning Tommy.

This is hard to watch, but it’s reality. Please geld your stallions, and take care of your horses. If you can’t, know that there are resources available and people who will try to help. We can’t save them all, but we do whatever we can. Thank you for your support of our rescue. Every penny helps.

NOTE: This was filmed in 2015, when close to 200,000 US horses were shipped to slaughter. Today that number is closer to 20,000.

There has been ZERO increase in starvation or horse abandonment, so where are all those horses going now who aren’t being slaughtered?

The answer is, they’re being absorbed into the system, as the remaining 20,000 will be when slaughter is shut down completely.

Next time a pro-slaughter person claims their big concern is starvation, remind them of this.

CORRECTION on original text. It was the owner of a different horse (same outcome) who “cried all the way home.” The owner of the appy believed someone would buy his horse, being young and quite flashy. Which further goes to show the truth of this industry - no horse is safe. In fact the healthier and younger the horse, the more at risk they are.

5 degrees out currently, and this sight makes me a bit relieved. 17 round bales delivered to help keep our donkeys and horses fed. Now to get more square bales. Thank you to anyone who has donated! We cannot do this without help. 🙏🏻💙

So our barn cat, Chauncey, didn’t come when I filled the cat bowls. It’s snowing and really cold, so I’m walking around trying to find him. Nope- not in his heated cat house. I found him- in Noelle’s stall. He has learned that not all donkeys like cats, so he was silent. Noelle didn’t care one bit, but this is the first time Chauncey isn’t hollering at me. In other news, Noelle is still very pregnant. I swear she’s waiting for Christmas to have this baby. 😂 Let’s see, Holly for a girl, Frosty for a boy? 🤣

Handsome the Horse smiling yesterday before this snow today. Handsome is 22 years old, and has had several bouts of pe**le cancer. He is the one that started us on our horse/donkey life. He had several owners before us, and when we got him, I told Handsome he would have a forever home with us. 💙💙💙

We get people asking about blankets for donkeys. With this weather coming in, we make sure ours have a waterproof sheet on. Donkeys have totally different hair than horses and they originally are desert animals. Their hair doesn’t insulate like a horse, so if they get wet then the temperature plummets, they get really chilled! If you’ve ever bathed a donkey, you know how long it takes for them to dry.
Here is how to measure for blankets for both horses and long ears. Our donkeys will literally line up for Ashlyn to blanket them- lol!

UPDATE! Prayers were answered! I’m so happy (and shedding tears, I won’t lie) that Benny and Jet have been adopted!!! They will be leaving for their new home on Sunday!💙💙💙💙💙
These boys- they walked right up to me out of the (muddy) field, and walked right into a stall. It’s hard to believe that they were feral and totally terrified of people just a few months ago. Benny and Jet have a potential adopter coming to meet them today. Prayers for these sweet boys that they find their forever home. I absolutely adore them!

Benny and Jet are the only rescue residents looking for their forever home at this point in time!

6 and 7 year old standard sized geldings that are super sweet and fully vetted! They are a bonded pair and must go together. They would love to find a family this holiday season. ❤️
