Tom Tom is a 6 mo old Pomeranian puppy. He came to us recently after being thrown off a deck by a young child who perhaps did not understand the injuries it might cause.

Because of his tiny size, surgery to repair his fractures was tedious and expensive. We are grateful to Central Kentucky Veterinary Center and Dr Bollinger for their excellent care!

Despite discounted pricing, Tom Tom’s medical expenses will exceed $2,500. If you’d like to help support his care, you can donate at the link below and designate to Tom Tom’s medical care. Thank you in advance for your compassion and ongoing support of our fragile animals.

🥳 Wow!! What a rocking week of adoptions, powered by PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week! We had almost 30 animals adopted, including 10 dogs! We were super excited for tripod cat, Sutton, and sweet Coco Puff, a boxer-pittie who had been in our care over 200 days! 🙌🏼

🐕‍🦺 We also met tons of compassionate animal lovers who came from far and wide to find their forever pets, including a family from WV, a retired veteran, and the UK women’s basketball team! We all share the joy of having that special cat or dog in our lives!

🫖👗🐶Thank you so much to Debutante Events for hosting us today at their Bluegrass Tea Party & Fashion Show at Queenslake Weddings & Events! Our board members & puppies had a blast and we appreciate the fundraising to support our foster program.

✂️ We also want to give a shoutout to Cassie at Doggie Doo’s Pet Salon for cleaning and grooming our little ragamuffin pups! Look at those before & afters! She’s almost a magician! 🪄🐶

📈Mid-year update! We’ve been feeling busy this spring and there’s a reason! Not only have our animals been more sickly and fragile on intake (requiring more medical care and longer fostering times), our numbers are rising!

💙 Adoption numbers for Jan-June 2024 are the highest in recent years and on an upward trend!

😻🐶 We continue to place more cats than dogs (3-4 cats for each dog), but both are on the upswing!

❓What does this mean for you, our community? We need MORE fosters, more active volunteers for adoption events, and more advocates to help share the good news! (We also love the Amazon donations and any financial support!)

Our July Volunteer of the Month is Jenn Browning! Sponsored by Raising Cane's

We could not take such excellent care of the many animals at Scott County Humane Society without our volunteers! Each month we highlight one of our special volunteers – someone who donates their heart and time to the animals in our area who need it most. This month we are celebrating Jenn Browning, our July 2024 Volunteer of the Month!

Jenn grew up in Louisville, but moved around a lot before settling in Georgetown in 2021 with her fiancé Cliff and his three daughters. She spends most of her day in front of a screen working as a Principal Consultant for a Microsoft Solutions Partner guiding organizations through the deployment and adoption of modern work technology solutions. (Wow! Jenn, you are one smart cookie!)

Jenn came to the Scott County Humane Society following a rough couple of years of tremendous loss including the sudden death of her grandma, the passing of her mother following a 3-year battle with angiosarcoma, and the death of her two beloved rescue dogs, a long-haired dachshund, Alfie, and chiweenie, Mr. Ecko. Despite not being ready to bring more dogs or cats into her home, she wanted to keep animals in her life and thought volunteering for SCHS was a perfect way to do so.

Jenn has been an awesome addition to our events committee. Even though she has only been volunteering for about 6 months, she has made such a huge impact on our organization! Jenn served on the committee that planned our first ever and extremely successful Party for Paws, Unleashed event. This committee met for many months and Jenn was such a steadfast, reliable and conscientious worker. Jenn has also helped with our Santa Paws event and is currently on the committee planning our paw Putters Golf Scramble which will take place August 16.

Jenn feels that volunteers are critical for organizations like SCHS and everyone has a talent or time that can impact the success of our mission to ensure humane care and condition for companion animals is met in our community. Tons of opportunities are available from being involved in the care of animals to helping plan and run fundraising events, so stop waiting and come join us! Although Jenn has only been volunteering for a short time, she feels she has met some tremendous people who she now calls friends. People with a common interest make the best friends!

Her favorite volunteer memory is seeing the Party 4 Paws event coordinators come together in record timing to make this event a success despite a crazy pop-up summer storm tearing through Georgetown 30 minutes before the event was scheduled to start. The storm left behind soaked table cloths, toppled centerpieces, shredded table numbers, and drowned the event coordinators and volunteers! But they all came together and turned it around to keep the event alive raising over $40,000 for Scott County Humane Society.

Jenn loves boating at Cave Run with her friends and family in the summer, and taking care of her houseplants and working on home improvement projects when the weather is not so great. She is grateful for this recognition and even more so for her fellow volunteers, staff, and the board members who make the Scott County Humane Society the amazing organization it is!

We are so blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers like Jenn, but we can always use more help! Jenn, your commitment makes a difference! We admire your dedication and we value you! There are so many animals in our community that need us, and we could not do this work without our incredible volunteers. We thank them for all they do. Before the fireworks start (most places they've already started!🎇), take a sharpie and write your phone number on your dog's collar! You can literally write it directly on the collar, on the outside of it or flip it over and write it on the inside. When we get in a stray dog, we always look at both sides, hoping there will be some info! 🐾 Keep your pets safe and enjoy the upcoming holiday!🎆

🌟 We could not take such excellent care of the many animals at Scott County Humane Society without our volunteers! Each month we highlight one of our special volunteers – someone who donates their heart and time to the animals in our area who need it most. This month we are celebrating Linda Stone, our December 2023 Volunteer of the Month.

🐈‍⬛ Linda was born in Troy, New York. As a child she took in all of the stray cats and dogs from the alleys of the city and cared for them. This led to her going to agricultural college & getting a degree in animal husbandry. She was able to pay her way through college working with racehorses and later worked as a vet tech in equine surgery for several years. From there, she took a position as a county animal control officer to get a new shelter built and kick started the local humane society back into activity.

🏠 Linda then began a pet sitting service, Pampered Pets, Inc. For 30 years she was the owner operator of this business with the help of many local ladies. They served all of Scott County caring for homes and pets while owners were away. Linda is now retired and she explains that after a lifelong love affair with animals, both large and small, she finds herself allergic to them! Although allergic, she still wanted to help Scott County Humane Society and homeless animals. She found her niche in helping with SCHS’s two Peddler’s Mall booths. Linda volunteers by pricing the wonderful donated items and placing them in our booths. And our booths look awesome! It is a bit of work for her, but she enjoys bringing in the much needed income to our organization. She also enjoys meeting the many animal lovers who frequent our booths. We appreciate all the people who regularly shop at our booths because they want to support us!
