Due to a water main break likely related to the flooding conditions in the area, the City of Georgetown is notifying customers in affected areas to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food, etc.). The map in this post shows the affected area. If you are in the red highlighted area, please follow boil notice advisory until further notice.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil, then boiled for one minute. In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
We will inform you when tests show no bacteria are present and you no longer need to boil your water.
