We are excited to welcome Dr. Mary Kate McDonald to the team!✨

Born and raised in Natchez, Mississippi, Mary Kate has always been passionate about animals and their care. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University in 2002, she pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian. In 2009, she graduated with Honors from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

Over the past two decades, Mary Kate has enjoyed her veterinary career practicing in England, Australia, and the USA. She is a dual national of both the United States and the United Kingdom. She has had the opportunity to treat some very interesting animals, some of which were even celebrities! In August 2024, Mary Kate returned to the United States, making her home in Georgetown, Texas, where she continues her veterinary career.

With a diverse professional background, Mary Kate has worked in various areas of veterinary medicine, including general practice, dedicated feline care, emergency and critical care, shelter medicine as well as providing relief and mobile veterinary services. Her experience also includes achieving recognition as a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Feline Medicine from 2017 to 2022, a testament to her dedication to advancing her expertise.

Her professional interest now lies in surgery, with a particular focus on providing a high standard of care in general practice. Mary Kate is passionate about helping animals achieve the best quality of life possible.

Outside of her veterinary work, Mary Kate enjoys staying active, spending time at the CrossFit gym, and exploring the great outdoors. She is a fan of the Texas sunshine!

At home, Mary Kate shares her life with a one-eyed "British" cat named Frank and an "American" miniature we**ie dog named Thelma, both of whom are extremely needy.

Pets Are a Part of the Family At Zoot we realize that pets are a part of the family and need to be cared for as such. We have built what we believe to be the finest and most comprehensive pet care facility in the Austin area. When we decided to build Zoot, we discovered most veterinarians were either not interested in boarding pets or just did not have the facility to meet the demand. We realize many owner’s first inclination is to board their pet with the vet they use….metal cages, small strip of grass out back, walks in the parking lot are not ideal and create anxiety for both pet and owner. The boarding industry on the other hand has sharply differing levels of professionalism and skill. Low barriers to entry in the “boarding and kennel” industry allow almost anyone to open for business regardless of skill level or work history. We have found some outstanding overnight facilities in our research across the country, but very few tied in with top notch veterinary care on site. Zoot Concept What we have done is combined the professionalism of veterinary care with a first class all-suite boarding facility. Zoot’s experienced staff can provide the best and most modern medical and surgical care for your beloved pets. Our 4 acres in the Texas Hill Country serve as a playground for your dogs….No parking lot walks or narrow strips of grass, but an area better than their own backyard! Our cat condos overlooking the lobby provide hours of entertainment for both cats and clients. Our People Set Us Apart Last, but most important are our people. We have taken extraordinary care in hiring a staff that will exceed clients and their pet’s expectations. All have a passion for pets and professional skills that set them apart.
