Celebrating New Year's Eve with your pet can be fun, but it's essential to prioritize their safety and comfort. Here are some tips for a pet-friendly and safe celebration:

Avoid Fireworks and Loud Noises: Many pets are frightened by fireworks or loud sounds. Keep your pet indoors in a quiet room to minimize exposure to these noises. Consider using white noise machines or calming music to help drown out the sound.

Secure Your Home: Ensure that your pet cannot escape in case they get scared. Close all windows and doors, and check that gates and fences are secure. Pets may try to run away if they become anxious.

Consider Pet-Calming Products: If your pet experiences significant anxiety, consider contacting your Veterinarian for calming medications.

Don’t Leave Your Pet Alone for Long Periods: If you're going out to celebrate, make sure your pet is with someone who can look after them or leave them in a comfortable and secure space at home.

By planning ahead and creating a calm, safe environment, you can ensure that both you and your pet enjoy a happy and stress-free New Year's Eve!

Fun fact Friday!!🐾🐾

Forty-five percent of U.S. dogs sleep in their owner’s beds.

Speaking of sleeping … all dogs dream, but puppies and senior dogs dream more frequently than adult dogs.

Dogs’ noses can sense heat and thermal radiation, which explains why blind or deaf dogs can still hunt!

Fun fact Friday!

Cats were considered magical and were worshipped as gods in ancient Egypt.

Most orange tabby cats are male because the ginger gene is on the X chromosome. Males only need one copy of the gene to be ginger, while females need two.

December can present unique challenges to pet safety due to colder temperatures. Here are some essential tips to ensure your pet stays safe this month:

Keep pets indoors: Cold weather can be harsh, especially for pets with thin coats. Small dogs and those with short fur may benefit from a winter coat, and booties can protect paws from snow, ice, and salt. Wet fur can cause them to get cold faster. Dry them thoroughly after coming inside.

Outdoor Pets: Bring pets like dogs and cats indoors when temperatures drop. If they must be outside, provide a warm, sheltered space, and ensure they have proper bedding like straw (not hay, which can get damp). Make sure pets have access to fresh water, even if it's cold. Water bowls can freeze, so check frequently.

If walking pets during the darker hours, make sure both pets and owners are visible by using reflective gear or lights.

By taking a few precautions, you can help keep your pets safe and comfortable through December's cold weather.

Thanksgiving can be a fun time for family and friends, but it’s important to keep our pets safe during the festivities. Here are some Thanksgiving safety tips for your furry family members:

Avoid Toxic Foods:

While plain, cooked turkey meat is safe for dogs and cats, turkey skin, bones, and stuffing can be dangerous. Turkey bones can splinter and cause choking or internal injury.

Onions and garlic are common ingredients in stuffing and dishes and can be toxic to pets, especially cats, and cause digestive upset or even more severe health issues like hemolytic anemia.

Nuts like walnuts and macadamias can be toxic to pets. Avoid giving them any nuts from the holiday spread.

Always have a safe space for pets as holidays can be overwhelming with the extra noise and activity. Make sure your pet has a quiet, safe space to retreat to if they feel stressed or overwhelmed.

By following these simple guidelines, you can ensure your pets stay safe and enjoy the holiday season alongside you!

A Greyhound could beat a Cheetah in a long-distance race
A Greyhound would actually beat a Cheetah in a long-distance race! According to Psychology Today, Greyhounds are excellent long distance runners and can keep a speed of 35mph for up to 7 miles. Where the Cheetah is incredibly fast, it can only keep its speed for around 200 - 300 yards, so they may have the running start but it would soon be surpassed by a Greyhound!
