I’m the WORST photographer at IEA shows, mostly because 15 is a lot of little girls to keep organized and *calm* but holy moly am I proud. Incredible improvements, and some super cute rides this weekend.

Thank you Candy Lane Acres and Chelsie Stair-Alter for an amazing organized show. Classes ran great, horses were perfect! Couldn’t ask for more!!!

I have three stalls available for winter!

2 in our back barn- run in shed, hay is included. Access to our indoor arena, private tack room, heated lounge, hot water wash rack.

1 in the main barn 10x12 stall attached to the arena

We feed blue seal feeds, three meals a day, second cut round bales outside and good quality 1st and second inside 24:7

Opportunities to work off some board to qualified individuals

4 instructors onsight offering lessons.

We also are offering haul ins this winter. Hoping to have heat here in the next few weeks!

One of the biggest misunderstandings about softness in a person and a horse, is that it represents some kind of weakness.

Softness is the opposite of weakness. To live in the world, to be in the HORSE world, and to choose, over and over and over again, to be;
1. Kind
2. Unassuming
3. In control of your feelings
4. Supportive and patient of others
5. Gentle

Requires herculean strength. Not just because we are soaked in cultural conditioning to be the opposite, but also, it is really hard, to be really soft. So usually, truly hard people, with tough characters, have the greatest potential for true softness. And horses too. My draft horse Sani is 650kg of muscle and power, yet when asked is the most supple and soft creature I know.

It is super easy to be
1. Rude (Even unintentionally)
2. Assuming and presumptuous
3. Out of control of your feelings
4. Dismissive and impatient with others
5. Brutal

These are the easiest, laziest and most common things we can do. Add in cultural conditioning that tells you that you are not responsible for how your actions affect others, we have a perfect storm.

"This is a safe place. This is a safe place. This is a safe place"
I said over and over again to start a clinic this past spring. This alone caused people to weep. Because finding truly safe places in the horse world is really uncommon, I am told.

Thankfully, we don't do horse world over here.

Remember, to be soft towards a horse requires huge strength. It is not a sign that you gave up, gave in, have no conviction. Rather the opposite. Everyday, we have to choose over and over again our behaviour and our level of self awareness to procure this for ourselves so that others can benefit from us too.

Sometimes, I have come across unscrupulous characters who mistook my softness for weakness. And they were very disenchanted when they discovered how in my core I am made of steel. I had military style education as a dancer, and my path to this place in my life now has been fraught with difficulty after difficulty which I had to fight. In the ballet company, my rehearsal director used to call me 'Officer Lachlan', because he thought it was funny how 'strong' I was. Stoic and hard as a soldier, almost.

Sometimes, I have had well intentioned, yet patronising emails from new to this page followers who found it incongruous that Emotional Horsemanship was spearheaded from someone they felt was 'too strong'.

I am a Steel Marshmallow. I make a strong choice for softness, but this does not make those like us, walk-overs or naive, or vulnerable for exploitation.

It is one of the hardest inner balances, to have boundaries and be yielding. It is a line thats tricky to dance on, and I wish I was better at it too.

But never let anyone talk you into being boundary-less, so they can personally identify with your weakness, and never let anyone teach you that softness is a weakness.
