2nd Annual Zimmer Equestrian Show Team Showoff was a success. The girls on this team tented together on Friday and got up early to chore, eat breakfast, warm up horses, and practice their grand entry. Thank you to Vaughn Duncan for making breakfast and providing the facilities, Madeline Smith for judging and educating the audience on each class, the Zimbelman family for providing seating, Amos Rayburn, Jason Strong, and Caleb Strong for holding the gate and setting up trail, and all the families for helping clean up afterwards. I’m so thankful for this community of people. 💕🐴

Thank your lesson horse

In this industry, we all too often see the average lesson horse viewed as lesser than or below other horses. Yet, they have the hardest job of any horse.

They do not complain when an unbalanced first time rider mounts for their lesson. They are a calming force for the most timid of riders, promising safety and security. They are patient and kind, allowing riders to grow and evolve in a safe space without fear of making mistakes.

They take the brunt of your “bad day” emotions, without complaint, even though the negative emotions should not be taken out on them in the first place. They would have every right to not perform or act out, yet they are gracious enough to be a shoulder to cry on.

They have the remarkable ability to sense your insecurities and needs, and provide you with the exact ride you need for the day. To teach the lessons you need in that moment, lessons you didn’t even know you needed to learn.

Even on the frustrating days, “when the lesson horse isn’t listening,” they don’t take your accusations to heart. They continue on with their masterful plans to instill humility, critical thinking, and grace in their partner - and you will finally understand that they’re always listening, and they’re always right.

And when you finally graduate to your own fancier horse, take a moment to think of all the lesson horses who brought you to this milestone. They gave you the knowledge, ability, and skill to be where you are right now. And they gave you their heart and soul in the process.

So next time you see a lesson horse, thank them. Give them a pat and a peppermint, a warm hug, and a promise to treat them with respect - for they are the backbone of this industry, and the foundation for all future equestrians.

I proudly present to you, Zimmer Equestrian. An inviting place for horse enthusiasts to begin competing at local open and 4H shows. Little Bit Horse Lessons was a great starting name for the business. I started with four little kids who could hardly reach the stirrups! As these students have significantly grown, so has this business. When I knew it was time for a change, it was important I chose a name that reflected the maturation we’ve all encountered. From “little-bitty” cowkids to inviting equestrians.

As this year comes to a close and I enter the new one with a new business name, let’s reflect on 2022. My theme of the year was “community”. I started a show team, hosted four events, worked with a phenomenal trainer down the road, and invited every family to an end-of-summer awards ceremony. I even continued lessons for the school year!

One core memory I’ll highlight was the show our show team attended. These ladies worked hard all day. They ensured the horses had water and feed, got the horses and themselves show-ready, competed hard, and cheered each other on. Little did they know that class by class, ribbon by ribbon, they were making their parents and I proud. Not for winning, no. But by working as a team with their horses and their peers, and for making friends with fellow competitors at the next trailer. After trailering the horses home that evening, I put the barn back in order, wiped my tired brow, and closed up shop. I turned around and peered over to the most beautiful sunset with my three horses looking at me. I was consumed by the happiest emotion, and fell to my knees in prayer as my face flooded with tears. I thanked God for the horses He blessed me with. For the community of people to learn with and to learn from. For leading me to Christ-like landlords who work hard in their faith and encourage me to pursue my dreams. For a family full of entrepreneurial thinkers who only believe in opportunity. For friends who lift me up on the hard days, and fill me with reality when my ego is high. I thanked Him for anything and everything, all the way down to my beating heart. As I lifted myself from the ground and wiped the joyous tears, I patted every horse before walking up the hill - ever so thankful that I’m creating my own dream and not living for someone else’s. Thank you Lord for Your whispers. I don’t always understand the path You’re putting me on, but I look forward to trusting what You have in store for Zimmer Equestrian in 2023.

About Little Bit Horse Lessons

My name is Breann Zimmer and I own/operate Little Bit Horse Lessons! Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for two things: people and animals. I’ve had the privilege to work with both of these passions for most of my life and continue to do so through Little Bit Horse Lessons, and I have all customer and family support to thank for this.

Little Bit Horse Lessons is seasonal to benefit the family and student schedules. All tack, brushes, and riding areas are provided. Personal horses are welcome! I am also willing to travel within a 40-mile radius to give lessons at an extra charge.

As of February of 2019, I accepted a teaching position at Central City Public Schools where I will be one of the agriculture teachers and an FFA advisor. This will allow me to teach during the school year and teach lessons during the summer! For more information, contact us!

If you're interested, please send your address. An information packet (INCLUDES MAPS) will be mailed straight to you.
