Remember Chef, the kitty with chronic nasal congestion and boogers? After we flushed his nose and ran some tests, we diagnosed him with Chronic Rhinitis. It’s an autoimmune disease that requires lifelong therapy to reduce inflammation in the nasal passages. Treatments typically include a short course of oral steroids and long term inhaler with a steroid drug. Within a couple weeks, Chef had no more sneezing or boogers and now you’d never know he was that guy in the first video!
If your cat has problems with recurrent or chronic nasal congestion, talk to your vet about testing to rule out infectious diseases and polyps, performing a nasal flush, and other diagnostics and treatments. You may need a second opinion to a vet who is experienced in feline internal medicine, such a member of the Feline Veterinary Medical Association.
